When travelling solo, the train is cheaper.
Thanks for your helpful suggestion. I was on my own on my last visit to HK.

The OH will be delighted that the taxi will be (almost) saving money!

Not really a 'meet and greet' with your name on a sign. The Intercontinental HK has a kiosk setup with other hotels and you walk up to them where they will then bring you downstairs to where all the cars are.

So which room numbers are the best ? or the last two digits of the room number (if they are the same on multiple floors)...I have found it is best to request specific room numbers over categories if possible.

Have another stay scheduled for next month. Looks like they're sold out except for Superior Harbor View and the Executive / Deluxe Full Suites. I booked the Deluxe Harbor View and got upgraded to the Deluxe Junior Suite and will be checking in at 8am. Wonder if the Deluxe Junior Suite isn't available they'll do a triple category upgrade for an RA.

Advice for Award Booking IC HK

My wife and I are planning to spend three nights at the IC HK in September. She is IHG Plat and an Ambassador. I understand that there's no chance we'll get a room with a view, but I was hoping that others who have been there recently can tell us a few things about the hotel:

(1) Any idea about the status of construction at the neighboring property?

(2) Have the hotel's room been recently rennovated?

(3) Is there a type of room we can request that would minimize noise smells etc of the construction?

We would appreciate any other advice anyone can offer as my understanding is that tomorrow is the last day we can switch to IC Grand Stanford before the price for award bookings rises

Thanks!

Construction has no impact on the hotel right now, probably not even at the pool. If you absolutely do not want to face the construction site, request a room with "plaza" view (i.e. towards Nathan Rd/Sheraton area).

You can upgrade for cash to a room with a view.

The hotel has been renovated about 5 to 10 years ago and is pretty much up to date and in very good condition.

The design of the room albeit recent is not great (Mandarin Oriental is much nicer, and has a better location).
Beware some rooms have smell issue (problem with air conditioning).
If you stay on points, CP might be a better choice.

I stayed on points this last weekend at both IC hotels in Hong Kong. Keep in mind that this was during the "HK Sevens Rugby Tourn" that consumed the city.

1. The IC Hong Kong was FANTASTIC. I loved the bar area. My room was huge (upgraded to Junior Suite as they were sold out....I was gold, but am nothing at the moment). Rooms were 40,000 points and worth it, even if you don't get an upgrade. The staff were great and very helpful everywhere I went. The pool was fantastic and the construction next door wasn't very loud. I do think whatever they are building will block the views on that side of the hotel, but that is just a guess. Also the location is awesome.

2. The Grand Stanford was not nearly as nice. The location is not as convenient and the view wasn't nearly as nice. The rooms were TINY and even though I had a confirmed non-smoking room they put me in a smoking room that looked like it was from 1975. They are in the process of upgrading the rooms and they made me sign a noise waiver acknowledging the construction noise. WOW was it loud. It sounded like there were jackhammers on every floor. The lobby was nice, and the staff were ok. The breakfast buffet was very nice. It was a RIP on points though. It is 50,000 points per night, 10k more than the other hotel. I got the reservation on the last day of the grandfathered 40k level. I wouldn't pay a point more.

Just my 2 cents.

Yes, the xx16 junior suites are the way to go. They have a full panoramic harbor view, while the xx01 ones have only a more limited harbor view.

They are done with the construction inside the hotels. The rooms are nicer, but many still have that horrible moldy smell. And they act like completely surprised about the problem instead of just blocking out these rooms.

Construction now is behind the hotel. They teared down the New World Center including the shopping center, hotel, apartment buildings, car park and department store.
A few weeks back they were starting to rebuild and still were below ground. Very noisy when you have a room facing the back of the hotel (including some of the 'partial harbor view' rooms.
Considering how long this type of construction takes it sounds like the hotel will be noise and the surroundings dusty for a few years.

New World is right behind IC HK. I am talking about IC Grand Stanford. sailanacra was complaining about construction noise there. IC GS is at least a 20 minute walk from New World.

I cannot work out if there is a Club Lounge at this property or not. Could someone please advise?

If there is one, how do they treat RAs?

Yes there is a Club, no RA's are not invited. Unless you have a lot of extra cash lying around, I find it best to enjoy the wonderful samplings of Kowloon rather than pay a lot of money for this club.
