Crowne Plaza Las Vegas (Master Thread) - no longer a Crowne Plaza

I am trying to decide where to stay in Las Vegas and being cheap I am leaning to the free stay at the Crowne Plaza.

Anyone stayed there

I haven't, but I would add the question, what do they do for a Platinum PC Member?

it's a good location when I stayed there a couple of years ago. It's all suites, so no "upgrades". The concierge level was never open when I was awake or on property. Depending on how good points promos are, you may be better off going to another brand or hotel on the strip. I went for a $59 rate promo, and they had me for a week. But the last few times I looked it was over $100 a night. But if you don't care about the rate, I'd give it a thumbs up!

I stayed there 6 months ago...
Fine place, nothing special.
Good price.

I'm sending my wife there in March.
It had the best pricing in town for a decent hotel due to Nascar just leaving the day she comes in.

If you're just looking for decent lodging it is good - all suites.

There is no casino, or slots.
It is right across the street from one of those secondary casinos - maybe Terribles (can't remember). They had decent buffet in the middle of the night.

Crowne Plaza - Las Vegas

I'm currently staying at the Crowne Plaza - Las Vegas. Since Las Vegas is a pretty popular place for folks to visit, I thought I would write a review for those of you considering a visit to Las Vegas in the future. I'm attending a conference out here and would have loved to have stayed at a nice hotel on the strip, but had to keep the trip under a certain price. Thus...I'm at the CP (earning points of course!!!)

1. Proximity to "the Strip"
The hotel is about 1 mile away from the strip. The closest hotel on the strip to it is Bally's. I actually walked back to the hotel last night from the strip. It is a good way to get exercise.

2. Transportation
I didn't know this when I arrived but the hotel will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. They will also drop you off at three strip casinos: MGM Grand, Aladdin, and Bally's. They will NOT pick you up from the strip.

The shuttle bus driver though pointed out to me that I could catch the Hard Rock Hotel shuttle bus which picks up/drops off at several locations on the strip. So, I took the Hard Rock bus back.

3. Nearby Places
Next door to the hotel is the Hard Rock Hotel.
Across the street from the hotel is Terrible's casino. I think there is a McDonald's inside Terribles. Also about 2 buildings down from the CP hotel is a PF Changs.

4. Pool
The pool is nothing great. I'm sure it is very small compared to most Las Vegas hotel pools. There were not nearly enough lounge chairs available at the pool.

5. Internet Connectivity
All rooms are equipped with free high-speed internet access. There were also two computers in the lobby for guests to use.

6. Rooms
This is a "suites" hotel. As a result, when I asked about my Platinum Upgrade, they said they did not have any. The room consists of a living room area and a bedroom area. The bedroom area can be seperated from the living room area. The room has a fridge, kitchen sink and two t.v.s. The door to the hotel room is the heaviest hotel room door I've ever seen. If you aren't careful, the door makes a very loud noise when you shut it. Anyway, the bed is AMAZING! I'm not sure if all CP beds are like this....it may be that the one I stay at in Richmond hasn't upgraded their beds yet. I've never been so excited to climb into a hotel bed.

7. Other
I received breakfast coupons good for either a free continental breakfast or $5.00 off my breakfast. I'm not sure if this was a Platinum Benefit or if it was in my rate.

Also, the hotel does not have a casino.

8. Recommendation
I would recommend this hotel to others. I received a decent rate on the room, I am able to obtain free transportation to and from the strip (by use of the Hard Rocks shuttle back to the hotel), I have free internet access, and of course, I earn my hotel points. Also, unlike the hotels on the strip, I do not get lost inside this hotel

You are my Higher Power! I have reservations for July (with points) and I have never been to Vegas. I have been trying to find a review of this hotel for weeks on all the LAs Vegas sites. Thank you so much.

My sister and her husband from the UK are coming with, is a suite big enough (too small) for 2 couples? (I am frugal)

I have several 2 for 1 coupons for Terribles buffet - did you eat there, and is it as bad as some reviews I have read?

The suite has a pull out sofa bed. I think it would be big enough for two couples. Its nice that you can completely seperate the bedroom, yet both the living room and bedroom have doors to the bathroom. I'll take pictures and send them to you once I get back.

One thing I forgot to say about the Hard Rock Shuttle - I was nervous at first that you had to be a hotel guest at the Hard Rock...but some people got on at the Stratosphere who told the driver they were just going to the Hard Rock for dinner....so you don't necessarily need to be a guest to ride the Hard Rock Shuttle.

I have not eaten at the buffet at Terribles.

This is my first time in Vegas too You'll find the strip hotels are very impressive, but I too am frugal and wouldn't pay the money some of them ask for. Also, not sure if you are a gambler or not - I don't gamble and I'm still having a blast. There are tons of things to do outside of LV - Hoover Dam, Red Rock Canyon, Valley of Fire State Park....unfortunately I was only able to see Hoover Dam.

I rented a car the first night - car rentals can be cheap. All of the hotels on the strip have free parking too...so if there are four of you the cost of a rental car may be cheaper than taxi's or other transportation.

Great post!

Thank you, holbropa for your most helpful post.
May I ask what rate you were able to get?

I know you are not a gambler, but nevertheless I do hope you have tried your luck with the FlyerTalk IC Forum promotion codes?

My Saturday night stay is $111.00. Sunday - Wednesday its $103.00. I could have gotten cheaper rates if I booked the Internet rate, but I was hoping to use Priceline the week before to get on the strip.

You can also get rooms on the strip for that much, but I think they are in the older hotels...I at least know what to expect when I book from a chain.

I just did some gambling - started w/$5.00 and ended up with $8.24

There are a couple more reviews of this hotel here: http://las-vegas-hotels.tripadvisor....as_Nevada.html

I love Trip Advisor for its hotel reviews! You never know what you might find.

Wow thanks for all the info, pictures and links.

We are definitely booked in at the Crowne Plaza, however with all the web browsing I have been doing, along with coupon purchasing and downloading, I managed to get 2 free nights at the Tropicana, so I decided to pay for 3 more (we will be there 5 nights) at $59.00. So a really cheap hotel stay.

We enjoyed the food @ Terribles. Didn't have the buffet but did have the dinner special and 'sit-down' breakfast. The dinner special, if I remember correctly was an 16 oz T-Bone steak, salad, baked potatoe, and a pint of beer for $7.99 - and in all honesty, the steak was better than the one I had the night before at Dalmonicos (at the Venetian).

nb. we were put up at Terribles overnight as we had been bumped off of our return flight by Alaska Air. The hotel was quaint, the casino was nothing to write home about but there's something about a smaller casino that has a nice feel. The staff were great!
