Reading about this elsewhere new accounts will have to have passwords from creation.
Existing accounts will be able to chose to change but (at present) won't be forced to change to a password.
Passwords muct be at least 8 characters incuding at least 3 from the following upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters
so picking from the first poster 'chrism20' wouldn't be allowed but 'Chrism20' would be as it has upper and lower case letters and numbers.

Definitely let’s you change it in the most up to date version of the app (4.37.1) which was released yesterday. It was on there I noticed it was allowing an actual password rather than a pin.
The existing 4 digit pin will still work, you have to physically change it. It doesn’t prompt you to do it.

Just tried it in latest app version and changed it to a strong password. Finally IHG, was about time after years of neglect and raided accounts. This would be worth an announcement instead of some of the upsell / cross sell offers I get every other week.

Ie, it's no big increase in security if they still accept both!

Well, given IHG's past account security you do have a point and it would not have been in the realm of the impossible, but the old PIN password does not work in app nor on the website any longer. Tested it.
