Holiday Inn Schindellegi / Zurich (Master Thread)

I just completed a stay at the Holiday Inn Schindellegi, in the hills up above Lake Zürich. It is a pleasant modern hotel which combines the best aspects of hotels in Switzerland with nice open areas, cleanliness and good service. Contrary to my expectations there is no view. The hotel is located in a forest on busy Kantonal Route 8 which itself yields quite a bit of noise and fumes, the only negative aspect of my stay.

Getting there without a car can be a bit challenging but it is possible to walk the 2.5km from Schindellegi station following walkways that are part of the Swiss hiking trail network (really not easy to do from Biberbrugg station, do NOT walk back along the main road, a 4 lane highway with no walkway). Obviously if you have baggage you should take a taxi which will cost about 20 francs.

I am going to write this over two or three posts, because it's a nightmare writing on a mobile phone and I already lost a whole post.

Nice reception area and space.

I didn't use the seating area but it seemed a nice place to linger.

The bedroom was really nice and I really slept well there, which is unusual for me in hotels.

Decent bathroom space, although the soap and shower gel was Holiday Inn Express style, in large dispensers clipped to the wall.

Fuego Restaurant

This apparently is the hotel's selling point and it specialises in beef, at Swiss prices of course, although there are some cheaper items on the menu.

Nice bar area with good range of drinks.

You can choose your type and cut of beef!

The quality was good, surprisingly for Swiss meat which is usually dreadful.

At lunchtime there is 3 course menu for CHF19, with a choice of five main dishes. I had the Würzige BBQ Rind Costine, a sort of goulash, which was ok but nothing amazing. I would save your money and go elsewhere.
FLYGVA, turner32 and Dubh like this.
