I was at the Times Square IC for new years three weeks ago on points. They did not charge me any fees. In fact, no IHG hotel has ever charged me any fees for point stays except for Venetian.

Which, to be fair, has also done so much to kill their credibility that (for example) I don't think I've clicked on a Hotwire or Priceline email in several years. I check their website when I'm trying to stitch together a half-decent hotel at the last minute (e.g. a blown connection/surprise layover at JFK).

But also isn't those folks that it is obnoxious with...it's really RocketMiles (AKA "I-don't-use-your-chain-enough-to-care-about-earning-your-points-just-give-me-points-I-will-actually-use.com") and similar sites. For example, I've been "on strike" from IHG's program ever since I got screwed out of a one-week stay a few years ago...but I still don't like having to play games on either website and as often as not those fees just make me either ignore or downplay a known "fee hotel" no matter the listed price (e.g. the Hyatt Regency at the Orlando Convention Center has been on my "blacklist" for this reason: I just won't seriously consider it unless it is showing at least $25/night below a competitor).

Then again, I wish they'd also allow you to throw in parking (which is sometimes a concern for me and sometimes not) to estimate your actual cost for staying somewhere...Orlando hotels seem to be about half-and-half on charging for parking, for example.
For hotels, I see that Kayak often has an option that is not the default to sort hotels by total stay cost not the base nightly rate. Even Priceline opaque now indicates the exact not prepaid resort fees before you complete your purchase. Both Kayak and Priceline are in the same ownership group. But many hotels discourage using OTAs as we know. It is up to the consumer to use those filter choices.

CP Times Square has never charged me the additional fee either, as a platinum elite. For 3 stays over the last 5 years or so.

As an inner circle and staying at a Kimpton, I do wonder if the Guest Amenity Fee is waived since those are part of the benefits of being inner circle. Anyone have an experience of such?

Serious question.

My favorite answer to these kind of charges is ”can I reject this offer?”

It does, at Kimptons.

And for RAs, starting Feb 1st, for RAs.

I agree with most people here that hotel should not separate Amenity fees from total cost. There should be a law against such practise. Once you allowed hotel to operate in such a way, you will see 'electricity fees' 'water fees' 'building issuance fees' 'housekeeping fees' in other names added all together one day. Because of the Resort fees, I do not go to Las Vegas casino hotels any more. Personally I actively avoid properties with hidden fees. I prefer hotel to quote me daily rate of $200 rather than $119 + $35 resort fees. Yes I got that right. I'd rather to pay a higher all inclusive fees than pay less with resort fees.

IC Barclay charging "resort fee" on F&F rate as of today. 2 months ago, on the same rate I was not charged.
Apparently "they changed it" last month. Crazy and borderline illegal.
How can they force me to pay for internet if this the main FREE benefit of their membership?

The resort fees at the CP TS only came into effect some time last year, but are you talking about cash stays or reward?

CP TS has been adding a "service charge" since at least 2015, when I posted this thread about it:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inte...arge-what.html

Maybe they just started calling it a resort fee last year.

My stays there have been both paid and on points.

Yes you're right actually, and I too usually get it waved.

A practical question: Which ones of these hotels will/do waive resort fees for various levels (AMB/Spire/Plat/etc.) for paid/reward stays? I'm looking at booking a room on points in April for my brother. I have the added confusion that my brother doesn't have any status... I am Plat.
