A new year and a new IHG promotion. Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions below:

For newcomers to IHG promotions, note that Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn (including Holiday Inn Resorts) are two different brand categories for these things. If your dashboard says 'stay at a Holiday Inn Express' as one of the tasks and you stay at a Holiday Inn, it will NOT credit for the Holiday Inn Express task. (and vice versa)

For a task that says 'Stay X number of times at a Holiday Inn Express' (or Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, etc.) each stay must be at a different property for it to fully credit rather than staying at the same property multiple times.

An award stay only counts toward a task that specifically requires an award stay and will not count toward other tasks and night requirements for the purposes of the promotion. (Award stays do count toward general elite qualification, but that's outside this promotion)

'Redeem points' award nights only count for the 'redeem points' task and no other tasks. (example- an award night does not count toward 'Stay X number of nights')

At IHG, points + cash stays are simply points stays where you bought some of the points at the time of the reservation. Once you finish the reservation, a points + cash stay shows as a points stay. Thus points + cash stays only count for tasks where they are specified, and not other tasks.

Doing a points + cash booking and then cancelling it does NOT trigger a 'buy points' task completion. A 'buy points' task is a points transaction that is processed through points.com

The 'pay with your IHG credit card' task has typically been very slow to post. If it does within about two weeks of completing a stay, that's relatively quick, and it will often be several weeks beyond that, depending on when your statement closing date is and how IHG's system sweep is timed.

Some offers require booking within the promotion period in addition to staying during the promotion period.

Thanks in advance !

Confirmed. I earned the bonus for 3 nights at one place then 1 night elsewhere a few days later.

The first few pages of this thread are dedicated to this. When the promotion was initially announced, it was 15 April. Then it was reported that it was 30 April in some areas. Then a confused customer service agent said 15 March.

For me, at least, both the promotion dashboard and (more importantly) all the relevant Terms and Conditions say 30 April. That's what I will go with as the source of truth, over anything else.

Most of the offers stack. The ones that don't are those requiring a points stay or cash-and-points stay, as those don't code as qualifying rates for all the other offers.

Maybe someone has a similar experience. A year or so ago, IHG talked me into, easily, their new Chase Master Card... forget the name, but it was 10x points instead of 5x which was a big plus.. so I retired by IHG Select card... you didn't have a choice on it...

Well, long story short, one of my goals in this promotion was: Spend on your IHG® Rewards Club Select Credit Card.
Didn't think much of it but now it seems the new IHG credit card does not qualify for the promotion. Not a big deal as only 1.5K points but annoying...

CS Supervisor said the computer is correctly programmed to not allow a four night stay with 2 reservations back to back. She said to call back after the promotion is over and maybe they'd give me a one time exception.

I told her every hotel chain in the world defines a stay not by reservations but by consecutive nights at a hotel. I asked if I would get welcome amenity points 7 times if I booked 7 consecutive one night stays at a hotel. Obviously not.

From the IHG General Member t+c: 17. A “Stay” is defined as one night or consecutive nights at the same hotel, regardless of frequency of check-in/check-out.

Why do we have to go through this every year (sometimes twice a year)? I don't want one time exceptions. I want supervisors who are empowered to use common sense, logic, and experience. We can't count on the computer programmers to correctly program all the promos.

Am I asking for too much?

Has this problem been solved?

I remember someone posted that the had two separate bookings at the same property and had problems getting the credit.(it wasn't this promo, can't remember which one)

I have a 'stay 5 nights' offer (can be non-consecutive) but it looks like IHG has it coded as 'complete 5 stays'. My first 4 night stay showed as 20% completed and a one night stay last week triggered another goal (stay at 2 brands) to mark as complete but the stay 5 nights only shows 40% complete. Everything I can find in the terms indicates it is specificially nights, not stays.

Is this a known bug that has historically worked itself out or do I need to call IHG to get it fixed?

I booked one of my nights for this promo at a Crowne Plaza (get 19,200 pts for trying 3 brands). However, I booked it when IHG had a sale a few weeks ago. Now, my account says that stay is non-qualified (although it was still about $125, instead of $150). Does that seem right? Do 'sale' bookings made on IHG website not count for points and / or promos?

From the promo Terms and Conditions, various discounts are... discounted from the promo (emphasis mine):

Bonus points are not issued for Non-Qualifying Room Rates or Non-Qualifying Stays. "Non-Qualifying Room Rates" or "Non-Qualifying Stay" include the following: net wholesale individual and group rate, certain package rates, employee discount rate, friends and family rate, crew rate, special discounted contract rates, seasonal worker/crew rate, 50% travel club discount rate, travel industry discount rate, distressed passenger rate, IHG® Rewards Club Reward Nights/Airline Hotel Reward rate, rates booked through third party web sites, complimentary hotel Stays and any other rates not defined as a Qualifying Room Rate at IHG’s sole discretion.
Deliberately vague and non-comprehensive as usual, which is why I always assume if I'm not paying full list price or more, it's a non-qualifying stay. You might want to try calling them, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Qualifying room rate generally means if it earns points or not. Generally anything available to the public on ihg.com should earn points and thus should qualify for this promotion. If the reservation when booked said you will earn xxx points for this stay, then it should qualify for this.

Thanks! I've written to them - we'll see. I'll try calling as well.

It definitely said I'd be earning points (1890 or something) - I've forwarded that to them. It was a regular room on 'flash sale' that was available to anyone. Appreciate the responses!

I do not disagree with your premise, but I've also been stung in the past (in general, not for this promo) by these catch-all "any rate we deem to be non-qualifying at our sole discretion" clauses, with no joy from calling customer services, no matter what kind of logical argument I could give them.

It could very well be though that this is just a glitch in their IT system. In this particular promo, I've had stays count towards a task, then a few days later disappear, and then re-appear another week later; so some discount rates requiring human intervention to post is certainly par for the course.
