A new year and a new IHG promotion. Answers to some Frequently Asked Questions below:

For newcomers to IHG promotions, note that Holiday Inn Express and Holiday Inn (including Holiday Inn Resorts) are two different brand categories for these things. If your dashboard says 'stay at a Holiday Inn Express' as one of the tasks and you stay at a Holiday Inn, it will NOT credit for the Holiday Inn Express task. (and vice versa)

For a task that says 'Stay X number of times at a Holiday Inn Express' (or Holiday Inn, Intercontinental, etc.) each stay must be at a different property for it to fully credit rather than staying at the same property multiple times.

An award stay only counts toward a task that specifically requires an award stay and will not count toward other tasks and night requirements for the purposes of the promotion. (Award stays do count toward general elite qualification, but that's outside this promotion)

'Redeem points' award nights only count for the 'redeem points' task and no other tasks. (example- an award night does not count toward 'Stay X number of nights')

At IHG, points + cash stays are simply points stays where you bought some of the points at the time of the reservation. Once you finish the reservation, a points + cash stay shows as a points stay. Thus points + cash stays only count for tasks where they are specified, and not other tasks.

Doing a points + cash booking and then cancelling it does NOT trigger a 'buy points' task completion. A 'buy points' task is a points transaction that is processed through points.com

The 'pay with your IHG credit card' task has typically been very slow to post. If it does within about two weeks of completing a stay, that's relatively quick, and it will often be several weeks beyond that, depending on when your statement closing date is and how IHG's system sweep is timed.

Some offers require booking within the promotion period in addition to staying during the promotion period.

Forgive me if I'm showing my newbie-ness with this question, but it seems to me that double (and triple) dipping can be easily done with many of the tasks, is that true?

For instance, among my offers are 11,200 for "staying at two different IHG brands," 4,500 for making a cash + points reservation, and 5,600 for "staying at two different IHG hotels." So does this mean that the two stays I booked, two nights at an Intercontinental and one night at a Holiday Inn (the latter using cash + points) will earn me 21,300 points from the promotion? I've read and re-read the fine print on each offer and I certainly don't see any language that precludes that.

I contacted IHG Service Center about the discrepancies in the end date of this promotion (15 March, 15 April or 30 April) and this was the answer I got:

"Thank you for contacting us about this. I apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused. However, I do regret to inform that we have yet to hear further updates regarding this. Kindly allow a few more weeks to receive an update regarding the end date of this promotion.

In the meantime, I would suggest to follow the end date shown on the dashboard, which is 15 March 2019 as this will be counted as the Q1 promotion for 2019."

Unbelievable really!

Yes you can double, triple or quadruple dip to achieve your goals. The key is to work out the minimum number of stays you will need to do this.

I know this question must have been asked before but I can't remember the answer. Is Holiday Inn Resort a separate brand from Holiday Inn?

No, they are treated as the same brand. This should be clear in the Terms for the offer.

Holiday Inn Express is a different brand.

Nothing ubelievable there at all.
This is what IHG has become.
Even they don't know what's going on.

If I owned or managed an IHG hotel, I would seriously consider leaving this mickey mouse franchise operation.

You can stack most tasks on these promotions, but cash and points stays (which are award stays in the system and not paid stays) have historically NOT stacked with other tasks that require a paid stay to complete.

Something odd is going on.

When I registered on Thursday (3rd Jan) my 'Achievment Bonus' was 'Complete 4 out of 5 offers to earn an additional 71,700 points (I took a screen print of it along with the tasks so have a hard copy).

Today it has changed to::

Your Achievement Bonus
Complete 5 of the 5 offers and earn (an additional) 71,700 bonus points.

Has anyone else's number of tasks for the Achievement Bonus changed?

Mine actually started at 'Complete 6 out of 5'
Was hoping they had it reversed, but it changed to 6 out of 6.

That's an interesting one before they changed it.

Obviously they have some sort of IT glitch with their promotion and not just with the 'finish by'date.

I have sent them an e-mail asking why my tasks changed from 4/5 to 5/5 albeit I don't really expect it to be changed back.

Thank you for this. You have answered my question before I have even asked it!

I have a Reward Stay certificate that i was going to use at an Intercontinental and wondered if this would count towards staying at two different brands, but as you say reward stays don't count I might just save my certificate for later in the year.

Below is my promotion. I think the formatting is curious that it says "complete 6 out of 7 offers" for the bonus achievement when there are only six offers listed above it. The seventh offer below the achievement bonus, "stay once in February" has traditionally been the sort of offer that is excluded by the achievement bonus. I've noticed the same formatting in others' offers. My specific concern is that it really means to say "complete 6 out of 6 offers." Anyone have any insight into this? Am I overthinking this?
