EVEN (South Lake Union) - Seattle

What is your Priority Club status?

Spire

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

King Wellness, which is what I received though I believe the clerk considered a room on the top floor as a sort of upgrade.

How are the rooms?

At first, I wasn't sure about the exercise equipment in the room as "distracting" but it quickly became just background detail. Lots of outlets, both AC and USB. Refrigerator and Keurig machine as room features were nice.

What was good and what was bad?

Check-in clerk made a specific point of recognizing my Spire status, including putting me on the top floor as well as agreeing immediately to a 1PM check out (regular time is 11AM). Was offered a choice of amenity points or a free drink at the bar; points posted shortly after arriving in the room.

Had a sandwich and a drink at the bar for dinner. Experience was, unfortunately, slightly negative owing to the fact that the chef had called in sick, so that the bartender was a bit defensive about having to deal with drastically reduced food options preparation as well. Your Mileage May Vary here.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Scored a decent advance purchase rate for under $100. I found it quite worthwhile, and would recommend it to others as a possible alternative to the Staybridge in the same building (@ 5x points).

What is your Priority Club status? Spire Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay? Not really.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive? Booked King Leisure and was given the same on the highest (11th) floor directly facing Interstate 80 directly outside. King Executive and King Suite were both available.

How are the rooms? The hotel is a round tower, so all rooms are pie wedge-shaped. The bed area is wide and spacious with a desk and armchair as additional furniture. The bath had a single sink and walk-in shower with a rainforest shower head and handheld shower.

How is the exec. lounge? n/a

What was good and what was bad? Good - bath amenities, towels, and bedding were all high-quality. Also good was the breakfast in the restaurant as far as quality of the options in the buffet and friendly service. Bad - extreme road noise from I-80 outside and also noise from the restaurant directly above (chairs scraping on floor) and pathetic elite recognition. There's also some secondary noise from the railroad tracks (NJ Transit Bergen/Main Line) outside which has trains passing through a few times each hour.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? Doubtful I would return unless guaranteed a decent upgrade and a room that was not directly facing the highway.

What is your Priority Club status?

Spire (not sure why though - didn't requalify for 2019 and didn't buy Amb, so should be Gold only)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

It was OK

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Received ideal room according to my preferences of high floor and next to elevator.

How are the rooms?

Standard HIX design. Good lighting and plug availability.

What was good and what was bad?

Breakfast was typical German fare of breads and cold meats/cheeses, salad, yoghurts, was good enough.

Received welcome points instantly. As an elite member, I received a check-in gift of a postcard (with the hotel name and a photo of the city), and a check-out gift of a 2cm by 1cm chocolate.

Location is a bit awkward if not driving. Stupidly I didn't look too closely before booking - it is really quite far from downtown, not really walkable, however...

Bus #5 stops right outside the hotel and runs every 30 minutes. It goes to the harbour and the Stadt Bahnhof (takes 13 mins), passing the Bodensee Shopping Center.

The Bodensee Ticket is valid on the bus, but can't be purchased from the driver. A single is €2.20 (but fares are zonal so if you're travelling elsewhere in the BODO Transport Network area, just remember to buy tickets in advance at a DB ticket machine and the bus is "free").

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

€77, chosen mainly to get extra points in the current Accelerate promo. Also as I was travelling to Romanshorn (CH) in the morning, and the bus connected well with the ferry.

What is your Priority Club status?
Gold Elite

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked and received twin standard (mid floor)

How are the rooms?
Fresh, clean and functional (incl the availability of electric outlets).
It also has some eco-friendly initiatives:
- air conditioning turns off every time the door is opened and can only turn back on if it detects a person in room afterwards
- no bottled water (instead fill at lobby, optionally buy a bottle at A$10)

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- 1hr early check-in (1pm) and 1hr late check-out (11am) granted; gold member receives 300 welcome points
- Helped me join cash and award stay to same room and credit respectively.
- Nice breakfast
- Excellent location
Meh:
- The air-con power saving logic is quite annoying especially it was like 40 degrees outside when we stayed. It works well when turned on though.
- I inserted coin to the wrong side of washing/drying machine and the staff couldn't help - that's A$2 gifted to the next user

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value for what's normally charged. (Cash rate during local event was like A$400 which I'll never pay towards an HIX...) Will return.

What is your Priority Club status?
Gold Elite

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked 2 double beds, received 2 queen beds at low floor facing CBD

How are the rooms?
Spacious but dated, had to move the bed a bit and unplug things to get a socket bedside or at table. Comfortable beds. Bathtub looked a bit dirty.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
- Gold member welcome points or 1 drink voucher, and 2hr late check-out (1pm) granted
- Bar at G/F was nice
- Kings Cross Station is just 20 metres from hotel lobby. Didn't feel threatened as some says about Kings Cross. Instead neighbourhood feels a bit expired.
Meh:
- Refused drink voucher for my other guess in the same room, which made me pay for another
- Our room key expired at late checkout period however it was sorted out quite smoothly
- No drinking water before asking reception, who brought us some without hesitation

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Not bad for its location, but I'd hope it refurbish more modernly, happy to return but may try to find other options first.

What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King - upgraded to a suite

How are the rooms?
True suite with separate bedroom. Standard HI decor with slight Asian influence. Stocked mini bar, with free bottled water. Very firm mattress, but still comfortable for sleeping. The room was on the 2nd floor, but at the back of the hotel. Kind of dark with little sunlight, but no street noise.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Separate check in off the main lobby area for IHG elite members. Very personal service. Great location right on Nathan Road and only a short walk from everything. No discount offered for breakfast but the buffet only cost 125 HKD. The restaurant has a dedicated area for IHG members that seemed quieter than the rest of it.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Used points. Cost was 45K, but it seemed worthwhile. I would not have paid the cash rate of $270US. I would definitely stay here again.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Leisure Nonsmoker, which is the highest on-line booking choice That was the room received, with a 500 reward points offered in lieu of an upgrade.

How are the rooms?
Its an older non-IHG hotel (formerly the Hotel Rafael Pyrimades) that has been standardised in a HI re-fit.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
+ There is an underground Metro and RENFE stop right out side the hotel
+ The breakfast was very good for an HI, with good hot and cold choices
- The hotel restaurant arrangements for a Monday night basically involved eating in the bar, with indifferent service... though the food was good.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I was satisfied with the value proposition of the hotel, and the metro access would definitely be a continuing attraction.

How is the exec. lounge?
Nil

What was good and what was bad?
Location, nothing to complaint

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
This time it was way better than 2 days ago
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard, upgraded to the executive king, finally with a view...
How are the rooms?
Mine was on 7/F, there’s a plague saying it’s a IHGR member, room with bathrobe and slippers on bed, an aroma fragrance spray for a good night sleep room facing the rogier square
How is the exec. lounge?
Nil
What was good and what was bad?
Good-anything better than room 324 or 404 is already considered good, bad- what happened to the shower pressure in all these hotels! It was poor... also the room was kind of hot due to the central heating, the air-con in the room doesn’t work, so the only option is to open the window
Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
i paid only €76, located in the heart of city centre I would say it’s worth what I paid for...

It was ok...
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard room; no upgrade, given room on the top floor facing the back alley...
How are the rooms?
Of all the indigo that I’ve stayed in... this is the Smallest rooms ever, but if you look at the fire exit route map, this is already considered the biggest in terms of size...
arrived at 12 rooms weren’t ready which is fine, returned found out the room wasn’t being refilled properly... there’s no bathrobes, no water in the fridge, a piece of almond was found on the floor...
How is the exec. lounge?
Nil
What was good and what was bad?
Bad-cleanliness, poor ihg recognition

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
paid €125 a night just because it’s located within minute walk from the central station, plus need to finish the mission, don’t think will return to this indigo.

What is your Priority Club status?
Spire Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard king room, given the same on the third (top) floor at the end of the hallway (but next to the icemaker).
[October 2019 update] I stayed here again recently and asked for a room on the top floor that didn't face Route 17 and was away from both the elevator *and* icemaker. I was assigned Room 330 which is room on the corner of the property that meets all three of these criteria. I will certainly ask for it again!

How are the rooms?
Rooms were recently-renovated and other than some wear on the shower handle, are still fresh and clean. Furnishings and bedding were clean and crisp, there was an ample amount of power plugs and USB ports and the rooms all have a half-height mini fridge and microwave oven. Digital climate control on room a/c helped keep things comfortable. Very strong water pressure.

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
The entire property has been renovated and looks really nice and clean. The breakfast area was enlarged to give more room and divides the seating area from the food and drink area. I emailed the property a few days in advance to request a quiet room on the top floor that was not facing Route 17 and received a prompt response. I was also advised that all of the suites face Route 17, so I declined consideration for an upgrade.

While the room did meet my requests to be on the top floor, not facing Route 17, and have feather-free bedding, it was annoying to be placed next to the ice machine. If I stay here again, I will need to be very specific on what I am looking for.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Very good value over the other IHG, Hyatt, Hilton, and Marriott properties in the area. I'd likely stay here again.
