IC Hong Kong

IC Hong Kong (April 2019)

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room using final uncapped free night cert from IHG Select card. Paid 400 HKD at check in to upgrade to Harbour View king (worth it).

How are the rooms?
Large room; harbor view is unparalleled. Large bathroom with separate shower. Everything was perfectly fine but felt slightly old; looking forward to seeing the results of the upcoming renovations.

How is the exec. lounge?
No access.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Of course the view. Seated check in for elites at separate desks was efficient. Good location.
Bad: In pretty good shape but should be much nicer after upcoming renovations. Pretty crowded lobby/dining/bar areas.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Would definitely return for a Harbour View room. If that wasn't guaranteed I might look at booking somewhere else.

IC Paris Le Grand (May 2019)

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Classic Room (points); confirmed change (via email after booking) to Superior Room with roll-away bed for 30 euros per night. At check in was upgraded to Junior Suite with courtyard view.

How are the rooms?
One very spacious room with connected bed and seating area. Large walk in closet. Large toilet/shower room and a separate room with bath/sink. The courtyard view is not particularly scenic. The room was in good shape but felt a little old.

How is the exec. lounge?
No access.

What was good and what was bad?
Excellent location; attentive and helpful staff; concierge was very helpful with several restaurant bookings and other local information; excellent restaurant (Cafe de la Paix). There are ongoing renovations to the building that obscure the facade, but our stay was not greatly impacted by the work.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
All around fantastic stay, and worth the points. I would definitely return.

IC Bordeaux (May 2019)

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Superior Room (Fri/Sat stay using Ambassador free weekend night cert). At check in was upgraded to Family Junior Suite.

How are the rooms?
Large living area with two couches; could be separated from the bedroom via sliding doors. Two separate toilet rooms, a separate shower/sink room and a separate bathtub/sink room. Two separate entrance hallways (one leading to the bedroom and one leading to the living area). An impressive suite.

How is the exec. lounge?
No access.

What was good and what was bad?
Large, comfortable room. Concierge was extremely helpful with restaurant bookings, and arranged for visits to several chateaux in St. Emilion (with private car/driver). Received complimentary breakfast (excellent) even though it wasn't included in the room rate. Excellent Gordon Ramsey restaurant in the hotel. Very nice central atrium bar (l'Orangerie). Fantastic location right across from the Opera.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
The room was not cheap at an avg. nightly rate of 425 euros, but the ambassador free weekend night certificate provided good value. I would not hesitate to return on an award stay (only 55,000 points per night --- excellent value).

Real IC San Salvador - Metrocentro Mall

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked 2 Double Beds Deluxe received 2 Double Beds Executive Floor. The hotel has only 4 room types. The two mentioned above, 1 King Bed Executive Junior Suite and 1 King Bed Presidential Suite.

How are the rooms?

Not new any more but clean and sufficiently largely with comfy beds. The bathroom is a little bit on the small side and has only a shower in the bath tub.

How is the exec. lounge?

On the small side and kind of clinical. Not a place where you want to spend more time than necessary. The food offering during happy hour from 18:00 to 20:00 was OK. Some local finger food, sandwiches, salads, sushi, deserts, etc. There is a bar where soft drinks and alcohol is served. Alcoholic drinks are limited to two drinks per person.

Breakfast offering was also good. A miniature version of the hot and cold buffet as found in the restaurant, plus omelets and other egg dishes made to order.

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
- The breakfast in the restaurant was terrific. It was included in the rate we booked so I don’t know if you could choose it with club access instead of the breakfast in the lounge.
- The Lounge offerings.
- The service all around. At check in, in the lounge, at breakfast.

Bad:
- The design of the lounge.
- Pool very small.
- USD 20 Ambassador restaurant credit was not offered. Didn’t follow up on that as I was quite happy to get lounge access, had breakfast included in the booked rate and had no opportunity to dine in the restaurant or have a drink in the bar.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Paid USD112 for two people incl. breakfast and taxes. Very good value. Would return.

The Venetian Las Vegas

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked: VENEZIA BELLA-2 QUEEN SUITE - BED AND BREAKFAST 2 Adults, 2 Children
Received: Room in the 12-story Venezia structure with dilapidated furniture. Called and complained and was moved to the 32nd floor of the tower above casino but still no views!

How are the rooms?
Room had enough room for the 4 of us.

How is the exec. lounge?
No access as ambassador - they wanted $120 for 23rd floor (different tower) lounge access.

What was good and what was bad?
Location was good
No upgrade and the breakfast was grab & go with 3 anemic pastries and a cup of coffee!!!
Smoking was an issue as the entire ground floor (Casino, FD, etc.) reeked with smoking stinch
Resort fee $45+tax - parking fee $45+tax (for a total $102.04 additional daily)!
No parking for an oversized vehicles unless you tip (bribe) valet parking staff at least $10 on each entry & exit to allow you curbside valet.
Very rigid and unresponsive IHG Desk staff - one of the worst I've ever encountered at any property.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
It was very expensive for a Sunday-Wednesday stay.

Grab & Go instead of real breakfast paying breakfast rates

Torn up seat (bottom) at the Venezia room

Room with view!!!

Willard Intercontinental

Willard IntercontinentalChase free night, Platinum AMB, one night.
Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a "deluxe king". Upgraded to a "king Willard Room" on the 12th floor. (A much lesser upgrade than I've had in the past two years - one was a 'Oval Suite' and the other was one of the presidential suites.)

How are the rooms?
As advertised. Very large room with a 4-person dining table, standup shower separate from deep tub, nice sized refrigerator, and a Nespresso machine. But it had one window, a small round window, that had a view of the (JW?) Marriott on 14th Street - not at all impressive. I also know that it was July 5th and very busy in DC for tourists.
How is the exec. lounge?
N/A
What was good and what was bad?
Pros:Hotel's history, including the Round Robin Bar

The impressive lobby and the historic Peacock Alley

It's proximity to the White House, the National Mall, etc.

The $20 F&B credit as well as the 4 PM late checkout.

Cons: I had asked for an early check-in (90 minutes or so). Arrived about 75 minutes early and was told room will not be ready until check-in time. But I spent that time with a drink in the Round Robin Bar. A first world problem.

I'd prefer the JW Marriott breakfast buffet; there is more room to sit and more room to maneuver around the offerings. Cafe du Parc is very small and apparently it closed its outside area (the 2nd floor area). If it weren't for the $20 F&B credit, I may have walked across the street.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes As a side note, on July 6th, two opposing groups had permitted protests. One protest was occurring on Freedom Plaza - diagonal to the front of the property. The other protest was occurring directly across from property on Pershing Square. Heavy MPD presence. The hotel was great about security.

InterContinental San Diego

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked: City View 2 Queens for 2 adults & 2 children
Received: 2 queens room on 17th floor facing a construction site.

How are the rooms?
Your run-of-the-mill smallish room found at any HIX or Motel8! The bathroom was very mediocre - no WOW factor and nothing special.

How is the exec. lounge?
Was not invited but inspected to report that it is very nice located on the 3rd floor with decent size balcony facing the ocean. Breakfast, happy hour, and open beer/wine spigot all day served here. They asked for $120 per day per room upcharge for the IC Club access.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Location, staff, and the views
Bad: Room, bathroom, and view from room.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
50K IHG points per night. Valet parking for $50 and self parking for $38. Ambassador credit of $20 can be applied at the restaurant or the bar.

Updated to list as NOT recommended due to room inadequate size (not Intercontinental standards) and surrounding construction sites

The Midway from the IC Club balcony

Room with a view!

Was given 2 vouchers for free drink at Vistal Bar

Breakfast options was limited. No "made to order" dishes.

What was good and what was bad?

Willard Intercontinental

Very similar experience to lamphs up thread:

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked: King Superior Room
Received: King Willard Room

How are the rooms?
The room is good though smaller than an upgrade I got in 2017 when I was merely Platinum (now Spire Ambassador). The bed is large and comfortable, there's a full size desk area and living room area plus a Nespresso machine and the bathroom is great. Overall it's very nice.

How is the exec. lounge?
None

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Check in staff were very friendly as were the bartenders and the person who brought my room service. Location works very well.
Bad: N/a

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
This was my last Chase free night without restrictions. Good way to end things.

  • The cocktails in the hotel bar were strong and delicious (although I went there only to use up the $20 food and beverage credit from the hotel's $30 "destination charge").
I am an Ambassador, stayed at IC NYTS June 22-25. When we checked out, we were told specifically by the front desk, and then by the Ambassador Concierge, that there were no charges to the room. (We had used the restaurant for breakfast, but had been given breakfast vouchers for each day by the front desk when we checked in due to a minor snafu). I did not receive any folio of charges, either on paper or in email.
Fast forward to Monday when I discover $165, $20, and $35 charge points posting to my IHG account! So I then went and checked the card used for the hotel, and lo and behold, charges! I called the IC and spoke to accounting, and they tell me today that 1) the $165 charge is incorrect, so they've removed it, but 2) the other charges are breakfast charges over and above the voucher coverage. The restaurant never indicated there were any charges, just had me sign off on the bill.
😡
At this point, I'm mad. Where does my best recourse lie? With corporate, to get points back; or with the hotel manager directly, to get all the charges reversed and something more for my time, trouble, and aggravation? This is NOT good customer service, especially for someone who (is apparently stupid enough to) pays for an extra level of service.

File a dispute on your credit card once the charges clear.

They have no case if they have no signature for you with those amounts.

They do have the internal hotel/restaurant slip signature with the room number, so not sure if that would fly.

Inter Continental San Francisco - SOMA / Howard Street

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked King bed premier view , received King bed corner (came through within hours of the booking)

How are the rooms? Very good. Comfy bed, large TV, clean bathroom. Had to switch due to construction noise and moved to opposite end of the same floor which was slightly larger and better views.

How is the exec. lounge? N/A.

What was good and what was bad? Got an email about amenity points before arrival. On arrival given $20 bar credit. Friendly staff. Worst was the charge to accept parcels and $30 to empty the mini bar - seriously never expected that!

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return? I paid cash and was happy with the room rate - average of $298 over 6 nights (range was $230 - $450) Yes would return if the rate was right
