Wiki was copied from 2018 thread
Created WIKI Mar2017 purely to add the "new" IHG PB List URL as I can't find by screen navigation since IHG changed the reservation screens etc, and the old url if saved no longer works either.

Just got fed up trying to find , much easier to store in wiki, hope this helps others

Pointbeaks changed the amount of points needed: This is discussed in this thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inte...5k-10-15k.html

This thread is about the discussion about the locations and the actual list, please use the thread above for discussions about the increased number of points needed for pointbreak redemptions.

Use this URL for "Live" PB Listing:

The PREVIEW list usually appears on IHG's blog first

2019 Pointbreaks Discussion Thread

Fellow flyertalkers,

discuss and guess when we will see pointbreaks in 2019 as in the changed format (i.e. 5000 / 10000 / 15000 points). LIke in the previous post, we strart a new thread seems better than to continue the old one. The 2018 thread could be found here (and I will leave this open for a couple of days)

Our goal is to keep this thread helpful and informative. Therefore I ask you to post in this thread only question related to point breaks such as (but not limited to):
  • practice
  • information about hotel appearing and disappearing on the list
  • booking (and maybe cancelation) questions
  • link to hotel reviews
  • ...

If you have indication, when and if pointbreaks will be available, please give details for the source (e.g. was told (i.e. yestersday / on July 25th) by (the front desk / lounge agent / member of staf) of the (HIX City / a Holiday Inn in London) ...). I am fully aware that a reference to the source should / must be avoided, on the other hand, an indication is needed, that there was such a statement. It is a matter of trust and for us moderators difficult to differentiate between a joke post / rumor / trustd source.

Rumors, if the Point breaks are discontinued should only be posted, if you have a source for it and can name it (e.g. someone mentioned it in a hotel and you trust this source, etc.). Question, which hotels will be on the next point break list, could not really be answered. You might check the pointbreak hotel list thread about the history of CP and ICs on the pointbreak list.

All other discussions are not very helpful for person, who are new to this forum and do not know how to understand this discussion. I therefore aks you to post this kind of discussion in our Lounge Thread . I will move all non-topic discussions to this thread, so they are still available, but keep this thread a bit more useful.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and sorry for being once again the fun stopper - but such is life as a moderator.

The current list is valid until February 28th so should be another month before we get a new one.

And on that subject, is anything still bookable on the old (current) list? If I remember correctly, that list came out at the end of November and was good for 4 months.

See the wiki. There are 20 or so hotels left on the list.

I would say see the IHG page, as the wiki may not be current and properties could hit their limit, even at this late stage.

There's a surprising number of properties still available to book on the old list, which I guess technically belongs to the 2019 Pointbreaks discussion because these are still bookable. There is Manchester UK (15,000), Munich (15,000), Padua (10,000), Moscow (10,000) and even HIX Istanbul Airport (5,000), among others. I suppose people are not going crazy booking these because they are obviously not the bargains they used to be.

HIX Istanbul airport is on the list, but probably is no longer IHG hotel , if you search for a hotel in Istanbul this hotel will not come out in the search results.

That's really odd it's on the list then. Has it left IHG in the last couple of months? Would explain why it's still sitting there on the list. I would have thought airport locations sold out quickly, especially at the 5,000 points level. I really wonder what's in store for us on the next list. A bunch of vocos ?

The rate around IST airport is 30 EUR ,inc. ibis, Courtyard , Hilton and probably non chain hotels are even lower.
So 5000 points does not make sense ( it is around 20-30 USD , depending how you value the IHG points, and you lose all points and promos ).
About this hotel it still display HIE logo , but is it working or is closed ( and wait for rebranding ) is a different story.
Also keep in mind that soon IST will be closed and all these hotels will lose all their business.
I am not sure someone will want to travel 1 hour by metro to stay there no matter the price.

Actually, Istanbul is a place I don't intend traveling to for the moment, full stop. I hope to go back sometime, though, because Turkey is a great place. I guess hotels are cheap all over the country and I expect we will see a lot of Turkish IHG hotels on Pointbreaks this year.

If they do probably still will be a terrible deal.

CP Antalya was a few time on the PB list for 5 000 in the last 2 years and the price there was as low as 11 Eur around 12$.
So if you use 5 000 pts you are actually paying 3 times the rate and forfeit the points you could accumulate.
But this is the state of the PB now.

Actually, I find it really hard to get any value for my IHG points at the moment. Whenever I look at a hotel, I find the points rate far too high relative to the cost of the night, which is often far too cheap in cash to justify using points.

In one recent example in Verona, Italy, the CP would have cost €97 and the points rate was 20,000. I neither wanted to pay €97 nor 20,000 points!! Which is inexplicable, I know, I ended up in an impasse of my own making. But instead of trudging out to some industrial estate in the outskirts where the CP is, I opted to stay in a classy Lonely Planet recommended B&B in the middle of the town for €92. I didn't get points or cashback (it's not on any sites), I booked directly with the owner. And it was excellent, right in the middle of things, so you could wandering in the middle of the night and hit a couple of bars before crashing out (I also spent quite a bit of evening time in the B&B because it was so nice and was made for opera singers). It's an outlandish example, I know, but I am finding it very hard to feel I am getting any real value out of these IHG points.

There are bargains to be had, just depends on whether you want to travel to areas of high demand. I grabbed the VOCO on the Gold Coast for Christmas Day and it was $300+ AUD or 15000 points!

There are definitely bargains, I have had a few along the way. But they seem to be increasingly difficult to find. Often last minute bookings can be a real bargain. But that's not the way Pointbreaks works, is it. If you want one of those rooms, you've got to get in there quickly and close a booking. At least, so far. Now that the prices vary from 5,000 to 15,000 points, there's not the same urgency to book quickly. Wonder if Pointbreaks is going to morph into something else, along the lines of other hotel groups promos.
