Elite rollover nights question

Can't seem to find an answer to this.

Is it only nights greater than the required number that rollover?
i.e. I have 50 nights and earn Platinum. 10 nights rollover as I needed 40.

If I have 30 nights out of the 40 required but get say 40k points to move from Gold to Platinum, do those nights rollover or are they lost at the end of the year?

it is only extra nights over & above the status earned that roll over, whether earned by points or night makes no difference.

Does the tier play a factor? In the OP’s first scenario, stayed 50 nights....made Plat, ok. But didn’t make Spire at 75 nights. Do those 10 nights above 40 still get rolled over?

Question

Rather than start a new thread, or have this buried in a Sticky or the general Spire discussion thread, I decided to adopt this thread to see if anyone cares to help me puzzle out a rollover question.

After removing rollover from last year, I have over 150 nights credited for this year 2018. That gets me 2019 Spire. I assume I also have at least a 75 nights rollover into 2020. Is this correct?

If so, Spire 2020 is a lock via this rollover, right?. Any more nights I do this year will not count in any rollover beyond 2020, and in effect, will count for nothing except current promos..

Any stays I do next year 2019 will not have any effect on status, as 2020 is already locked in from 2018. Even if I go over 75 in 2019, that rollover into 2020 won't add anything I don't already have except points and promos. Of course, burning points and enjoying upgrades remain in the plan.

Say, if I did 85 in 2019, that would be a 10 rollover into 2020, but that would disappear for 2021. So I really would be "starting over" the status count in 2020.

I haven't had a total like this before, and likely will not again. So this calculation is new to me. Is it true that 150+ actual nights in 2018 gets me Spire for the next two years? Does this make sense to you, as it seems like I could be misunderstanding something basic here.

I can't point to anything exact, but I seriously doubt anything done in 2018 would have an impact on 2020 IHG status. I just joined IHG at the beginning of this year, and I reached Spire status back in July, not based on nights, but instead qualifying points. I'll end up this year at 86 IHG nights, and the rollover is irrelevant to me, because I know I'll hit Spire next year (for the year 2020) on qualifying points in the summer of 2019..

You're probably right. They've had me confused since the start of this thing.

But if you think about it, you earn status this year to count in next year. That isn't rollover. Rollover starts off your count for the next year, along with stays you do next year. Then what is rollover? Must count in your total of next year, right? Count for what? For 2020.

My 30 rollover from 2017 started off my count for 2019 status. I just didn't need it anyway.

I guess I'll see it when it actually happens. Probably do enough points or nights anyway.

Just remember to save a screenshot of your account toward the end of this year. Probably a good idea on all your accounts.

Rollover nights don't roll over. For those of us staying 150+ nights a year, rollover is basically useless until the point we stop staying ...

So if you start 2019 with 75 nights of rollover then you will have already qualified for 2020 status.
So next year your first 75 nights in 2019 are useless ... anything over 75 will roll over into 2020 and thus help you in 2020 to qualify for 2021.

IIRC from last year, it takes a few days or even a week to show up. Give it some time. It might have even been longer than a week.

I rolled over 14 nights last year, this year I have 53 nights after I gained spire. Am I right in thinking that 39 will roll over into next year?
