HIX Fairbanks, Alaska
Stay Report - 4/6 - 4/8
Location: The hotel is located in a shopping center off the Johannsen Expressway about a mile west of the Steese Expressway (AK Highway 2). Nearby are a Walmart, Fred Meyer, Home Deport and a number of fast food restaurants. Downtown Fairbanks is about two miles away and FAI is a 15 minute drive. Because it's close to the Steese this is a good base of operations for Fairbanks and points around it.
Hotel: A fairly standard HIX though one that's a bit older and rather gloomily lit in the common areas. There's a large breakfast area on the first floor, a decent sized 24 hour fitness center and a small indoor pool. There's no snack shop but they have some options behind the desk. The parking lot is fairly small and is prone to being covered in snow and ice. There two elevators which is good.
Check In: Handled well by an agent who thanked me for being an IHG Platinum and gave me a choice of snacks as a welcome amenity.
Room: A larger sized HIX room with a couch and table in the living room area and a bedroom with desk and always appreciated Kuerig Coffee maker. The bathroom was fairly sizable and the shower got hot. No issues with wifi or soundproofing.
Breakfast: Breakfast ends at 9:30 on weekends and when I came downstairs at 9 all the hot food was gone and wasn't replaced. The pancake machine was also broken. I ended up going to McDonalds.
Minus the breakfast hiccup this hotel was perfectly fine and suited my needs well. I'd be back.
