Royal Ambassador Experience Thread 2018

This thread is about Member holding Royal Ambassador Status in the InterContinental Hotels and Resorts Loyalty Program. A template for the post is provided in this post.

How to post

1. Do not use the "Reply with Review Button" but the regular one

2. Put the name of the hotel in the title of the post and the thread

3. Use the following format by extracting it, ie by using "reply quoting", copying the content into memory, then backing out of "reply quoting" and then pasting the copied content into a new post. Each line is formatted so that you can paste in between them having deleted these opening comments:

The links to each reports in the posts above will cover all of 2017.

Maintenance Schedule
Links to reports between January 2016 and March 2016 will be deleted after April 01, 2018 --> done on April 01, 2018
Links to reports between Aprill 2016 and June 2016 will be deleted after July 01, 2018 --> done on October 02, 2018
Links to reports between July 2016 and September 2016 will be deleted after October 01, 2018 --> done on October 02, 2018

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked cheapest, 3 nights with different reservations, first two paid, third with points. Received regular room in the round shaped part of the building with club access (all 3 nights). Tey no longer upgrade from cheapest to suite, but their regular rooms are good enough for a short stay

How are the rooms?
Very spacious and well appointed. Bathtub, separate shower, 2 sinks, separate toilet. Only criticism: the work chair is not ergonomic at all

How is the exec. lounge?
Big, very nice service. Food offerings close to the new 'standards' very nice presentation, but just ok taste-wise.
Happy hour is 6 pm to 8 pm (was longer before)
Breakfast either club (very limited selection) or downstairs (good selection and quality)

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Dates, macrons, 4 fruits

How was the minibar?
average, only one diet drink, also free on reward night

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
- location. They are finished with most of the construction between the hotel and the shopping mall. Need to walk thru the robinson department store. The outside walkway on the upper floor is still a dead end. Only 10 min by taxi to the airport.
- service
- they let me stay in the club until closing (had a very late flight)
- fast free internet

-Bad
- Agraria
- Not enough sunbeds at the pool

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
- Their rates fluctuate a lot. The answer: it depends

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Queen Bed Classic Nonsmoking and received King Bed Premier Nonsmoking

How are the rooms?
Around 28sqm on high floor with views of the Tokyo Tower. Room is ok furnished with Thann Spa toiletries. House-keeping is a hit and miss for the 7 night stays. On certain days, we get excellent house-keeping services where they will even fold our night wear and place it nicely on the sofa. On other days, the glasses which we have used to drink were left unwashed.

How is the exec. lounge?
Lounge is still good with nice staff. Compared to the last visit about 6 months ago, I will prefer the previous staff members who were very warm and caring. The lounge managers (or supervisors) are still the same and great. Food wise, the selection during breakfast seems pretty limited now to some dim sums, sushi, bread and fruits. You can order eggs, pancakes, french toast from the menu. If you have club lounge access, you can have breakfast at the cafe restaurant in Level 2 which offer more extensive selections.

For evening cocktails, they have nice selections of alcohols and warm food from kitchen (either Asian set or Western set, which changes daily) or just sushi and salad from the counter.

On clear days, the lounge offered good view of the Mount Fuji.

There are 2 computer terminals, of which I used one to book a bus trip and found the internet speed to be very lagging.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
As per previous trip, received a Daruma doll.

How was the minibar?
Based on memory, the minbar selection seems be lesser than before. There is a bottle of red wine, few small bottles of liquor, drinking water, coke and the Japanese green tea bottled water.

What was good and what was bad?

Good

Arrived at 8am and while the room was not available, they offered a single bedroom to rest. While it is small for 2 pax, it is good for one to rest a little and take a shower
Club lounge is still good despite the cutback in food selection for breakfast
With club lounge access, can choose to have breakfast at the cafe restaurant which offers more extensive breakfast selection
2-minute walk to the nearest subway exit, which is useful in event of bad weather (though it will be at least 360m walk undergound to the nearest train line)
Staff service is good
The quality and selections of restaurants in the hotel are very good too.

Bad

Nothing significant, though the house-keeping service will be better if it is more consistent (or attentive)
Breakfast selection at the lounge is limited (not too sure if this is due to the Christmas period)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Good. Paid on average Y29,000 a night (due to fluctuations on peak seasons during Christmas and New Year eve).

Would you return?
Absolutely

Booked classic, given junior suite.

How are the rooms?
There are many types of JS's, and I got one of the better ones.

How is the exec. lounge?
The lounge is still the same in 2018 which is the best news I can think of. Still good food and drink all day long.

How was the minibar?
Same as always, Champagne and a good white Burgundy, etc.

What was good and what was bad?

Good
No policy changes for 2018
Room renovation has begun
New larger club will open in 2019 on 1st floor

Bad:
Nothing

Value for € or Priority Club Points?
With club and minibar it is an awesome value.

Would you return?
Again and again
