Thumbs down Kimpton Karma to merge with IHG

guess that means goodbye inner circle and goodbye to the free night an $50 credits I was counting on at the 2 Los Angeles area properties, palm springs and Sacramento. They should have stated this at the beginning of the year as I made it a point to choose kimpton and pay more in order to qualify for inner circle in 2018.

Inner Circle will remain a status level for Kimptons. You'll have your status in 2018.

Finally I will be able to use my IHG points at Kimpton. It opens up more options especially for cities that don't have an IC.

By the way, Inner Circle benefits are staying.

As someone sitting on ~300k Rewards Club points and a free night certificate, the addition of more high-end (for me, at least) properties is very welcome.

Edit: https://www.kimptonhotels.com/ihg-faq

"How many points will I need to earn to get a free night at a Kimpton?

Point values will vary by hotel and by room type and are based on time of year, location and other factors, but generally the range to redeem a free night at Kimpton will be 40,000 – 70,000 points."

Is 70k a new category? If so, it looks like they're opening the door to future award inflation. Top Kimptons in 2018, maybe some ICs and CPs after that.

Any idea as to when it will be possible to redeem IHG points at Kimpton properties? Chase IHG CC free night? I have a leisure stay in Palm Springs second weekend of February 2018, would very much like to check out the Kimpton Rowan.

Knowing IHG, "early 2018" could easily turn into July!

Very true!

Also, I'm sure getting the Kimpton properties onto the IHG reservation platform is a priority, but we're less than two months to 2018 so I'm curious when that integration is going to happen. I also wonder how the transition from Holidex to the new Amadeus cloud-based system is going to affect any of this.

More details on that here:

I called Kimpton today to use up a free night expiring 12/9, and inquired if my free night expiring mid-January could be used to book an IHG. She said she wasn't sure when that would happen, but would be happy to extend the expiration date to the end of April just in case.

Everything on the FAQ seems to imply that those of us requalifying for Inner Circle will get IHG Spire after January 1. I figure I will milk IC as much as I can in 2018, and non Kimpton IHG properties are my first option in a few places which I regularly visit. So I figure I can end up with 20 Kimpton and 20 non-Kimpton IHG stays next year, which I think should be enough to requalify under their secret criteria. My work Kimpton stays are mostly $250/night in NY and LA, and $175/night in DC, while my personal stays average $125/night, and I average 1.5 nights per stay.

Is anybody else actually trying to requalify?

Predictable, but still pathetic from IHG.
