IC Madrid, is a very nice hotel, but there is nothing in this area. A convenience store is many blocks away, few restaurants nearby if any, and the room service is expensive and consists of a small portions. This was my disappointment of this property.

Can anyone recommend about this hotel? Is it convenient to all tourist destinations for 2 nights in May. Does anyone have any special offers that they know of? Thanks.

The IKEX3 plan yields interesting rates, for example, on May 8-10, the pre-paid rate ranges from EUR 116 for a standard room to EUR 157 for a Club room (plus 7% VAT) per night. I would recommend going for the Club room, as the Club lounge is quite pleasant.
The IC is located in the business district, but very close to a Metro station, so there should not be a problem to reach tourist sites.

how remote is IC Madrid from main attractions?
Going to MAD in early (and HOT) August. Wondering if the IC Madrid is too far from the main attractions (Palace, Mayor, etc.) for two seniors who probably won't get on the subway. Should we pass on IC?

IC Madrid is not as centrally located as the Westin Palace (traditional grandeur) or the Me Madrid (trendy design hotel).
The hotel is 50 meters from the metro station Gregorio Maranon. If you mind taking the metro (very safe, modern and cheap), you should take a taxi (very cheap, and you can grab a taxi anytime with no problem).
The hotel is located in the elegant business district, only 800 meters from Plaza Colon (and exclusive shops), about 2.5 km from the very pleasant Parque del Retiro.
The hotel is a very good option if you are RA (upgrade to executive or suites with club access).
The interior design is very classic, service is excellent.
If you want to stay at a hotel very close to the Royal Palace, Sofitel Plaza de Espaņa may be a good option (classic interior design, good service, small but elegant rooms, very cheap but do not expect the grandeur of some Sofitels).

It's right down the street from the museums which translates into a 5 minute taxi which costs about 5 bucks. Not too difficult at all.

usavvy2, as you say yourself, Madrid in August is going to be hot- 40+ C/ 100+ F. Wherever you decide on, any sane tourist does as the Madrilenos do and have a good lunch and hibernate between 1pm and 4pm in their hotel and have a little airconditioned nap. Then go back out in the late afternoon and evening when it's a little cooler. Don't overestimate how much you'll see in the heat. That said, have a fab time, Madrid is a fantastic city.
