The Venetian Las Vegas

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Basic Luxury Suite on points, received a huge Piazza suite on 30th floor overlooking the mountain ranges.

How are the rooms?
Decor a bit tired and design is "trumpish" but still rather nice. Huge suite with four distinct zones. A large entry landing with guest WC, huge dining room with TV, bar, sink, double door to bedroom, and then opens up with two step stairs towards huge combined office space and living room.
Large bedroom with blinds that open and close towards sitting room.
Massive bathroom with dual sinks, jacuzzi, shower and separate WC room.

How is the exec. lounge?
Did not try. It is a shared VIP room with little F&B.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
I can't remember. But they gave me a USD100 credit towards the mini-bar.

How was the minibar?

Well stocked with the usual beer, spirits, wine, liquor, soft drinks.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
Everything! It was a rewards stay booked 24h prior to arrival.
- Generous upgrade
- All RA bens applied
- Lovely suite
- Comfortable bed

-Bad
nothing

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Outstanding

Would you return?
As RA yes, otherwise not as there are so many exciting properties in LAS.

Marseille

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Absolutely

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked two deluxe rooms, received Prestige Harbor Suite plus the Exec room next door. Same as we have every year at this time.

How are the rooms?
The suite has a refreshed set of furniture, but still the same basic layout. Lots of space, huge master bathroom and the guest bathroom, kitchenette, and the 20 foot high windows with the great views over the port and the hotel entrance and terrace.

How is the exec. lounge?
This hotel has the club experience which can be served in your room or the bar or terrace weather permitting. Great service and the food layout is really nice.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Fruit, fruit juices, nuts, berries, and a half bottle of nice red wine.

How was the minibar?
Same as usual with a half bottle of Champagne and rosé, pastis, etc.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
Great personal service throughout. Front desk, concierge, bar, restaurant, spa, housekeeping, etc. All top notch.

The spa is still in excellent service despite its popularity. The sauna, steam, experience showers were all in perfect condition.

-Bad
Nothing.

Value for € or Priority Club Points?
Yes

Would you return?
Every year at this time, plus whenever business calls me to Marseille.

Intercontinental Amstel Amsterdam

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yeah, it is very luxurious and I like how it is a 'small' hotel, I really don't like these giant monster hotels.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked cheapest on BOGO certificate, received Executive suite

How are the rooms?
Lovely, beautifully furnished, I love the blue / gold décor. couldn't really use the windows because of all the hotel renovation though...

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A - Received the Club Life experience instead...Which is lovely, breakfast in a reserved window table each day. Didn't try the afternoon tea. On one of the nights enjoyed the free booze and canapés, it was meant to be 6-8 but we arrived at 7:45 and drank until about 10, no charges...

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Stroopwaffels in a tin!

How was the minibar?
Hmmm, a bit lame from a booze front. All of the spirits were large, fancy bottles that were 'on top' of the minibar and were not 'free'. But there was lots of bottles of water which were useful for our adventure around Amsterdam.
Food is included in the 'free minibar' and they have bacon flavoured nuts which are interested.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
- Club life experience
- Service
- Upgrade
- Comfort
- Great spa, didn't get a massage but used all the other rooms.

-Bad
- Renovations going on aren't great but no biggy
- lack of spirits in the free minibar

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
- It's expensive, maybe out of my budget if I wasn't using the BOGO certificate but it is a lovely hotel. I think it is a good value for $$ but I don't have that much spare $$.

Would you return?
Yeah, if I wanted a fancy weekend. Next time in Amsterdam I will probably try a houseboat!

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Absolutely

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked lowest category as reward night. Upgraded to their new Executive Premium category...

How are the rooms?
...with most recently refurbished rooms on high floors. Nothing to do with the 90s feeling of the old rooms.
Apart from the stunning sea view these rooms feature a modern decor with a nice sofa, additional lounge chair, and a desk which is only semi-appropriate for working.
Bathrooms are fully refurbished as well and now have a separate walk-in shower in addition to the tub. Small downside: rather low water pressure.

How is the exec. lounge?
Nice views and attentive service. Food feels a bit basic (esp. in the evening) but is available more or less throughout the day (long breakfast hours, followed by lunch/cake, followed by evening spread). Alcoholic beverages are available in the evening only but with a large selection. Only local wines though, which I did not enjoy very much.
Downside: The lounge was very crowded at peak times and very noisy, sometimes no seats available and/or food gone very quickly. Staff overwhlemed by "particular" guests who gather full buffet plates on their tables, take large bottles of spirits from the lounge, etc. - felt a bit like anarchy

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Some cookies and a bottle of very mediocre local wine.

How was the minibar?
Good selection of soft drinks plus some beers, local wine and basic spirits. Minibar included on reward stay.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
- Upgrade on reward night
- Amazing views from high floors
- Great improvements through refurbishment
- Convenient location for Beach, Old Jaffa, Rothschild, North; easily accessible by foor or bike (city bike rental station right next to the hotel)

-Bad
- Lounge very crowded, lacking relaxed atmosphere at most times
- Pool closes end of October even though weather would be fine to use it (not heated)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Best redemption ratio I had over past 2 years. Property was fully booked throughout my stay due to large conferences taking place; rate at time of booking was well beyond USD 500 - with upgrade and lounge access this was amazing value for 40k/night!

Would you return?
Absolutely, at any time.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you
generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes! So much better than when I stayed here as RA last summer!

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Superior Queen (cheapest), received Executive King on the 15th floor

How are the rooms?
On the small side. In addition to the bed and dresser, there is a small table with 2 chairs. No desk. Small bathroom. Nice bathrobe but the slippers were missing.

How is the exec. lounge?
It's on the ground floor, next to the bar, and is very comfortable.
The breakfast buffet had a vast selection of hot and cold items (including scrambled egg whites!, tiny waffle, and small, delicious bagels). Every night, there is a different country theme with a good selection hot and cold items. Beer and wine, no liquid.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
A small IC box of candy plus one apple, one tangerine, one kiwi and some dates. Received water daily. Also received vouchers for 2 free drinks at the bar.

How was the minibar?
One of the best! 375 ml of white wine, 375 ml of red wine, 375 ml of tattinger, beers, and an extensive assortment of liquor and non-alcoholic beverages.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
  • Much better RA recognition than my previous stay here!
  • Mini bar
  • The staff was much friendlier than the last time
  • Location
  • It's a beautiful hotel
  • Lounge offerings
    -Bad
  • Minimal room upgrade
  • Didn't acknowledge the fact that it was my birthday (I notified them via email and also noted it on the reservation)
  • No one ever responded to the email I sent to the hotel earlier in the week.

  • Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Yes, I had a great rate, especially considering NYC prices.

    Would you return?
  • Yes!

Yes---ish

Hmm, breakfast is good, dinner is nice as it is a small set menu from the kitchen but the afternoon tea is awful quality.

standard, nothing special, just standard offering of wine / spirits / beer.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
- Beautiful views
- Good location
- Good lounge
- Reasonablish upgrade

-Bad
- overall seems a bit expensive for what it is.

- Probably due to lack of other IHG choices

I stayed there this weekend also. The hotel is now generally more than double the price it was three or four years ago.
It's too expensive, and I agree, it's difficult to justify as a cost:value ratio.
The minibar is pathetic as the "hard liquor package" of old, now manifests itself as 4 miniatures in a wicker basket, and the fake nespresso capsules were a strange surprise. Upgrades are followed to the letter, the nickel and dining here is on another level.
The club is nice, but again, poor compared to a few years back.

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Superior (cheapest), received King Sky View Corner Room on the 29th floor with amazing views of the Hudson River (in the past as RA, I've always received King Sky View Studio)

This room was much smaller than the Studio suite I've received in the past, but the view from this room was amazing! Modern decor. The bathroom was a little bigger than the one in the Sky Suite.

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you
generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
In general, Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Oceanfront, received King Club Oceanfront on 6th floor. I really think this is a one category upgrade... The concierge ahead of time said a one category upgrade would have been a King Club Lagoon view (since RAs get Club Access included, wouldn't a lagoon view be a downgrade?). I read other reviews previously where Spire Ambassadors booked standard rooms and got upgraded to amazing Oceanfront suites so as an RA, I was definitely disappointed with the upgrade.

How are the rooms?
Beautiful views plus a full balcony. Modern, with a couch, coffee table, desk but not a single dresser and only one small drawer in one of the nightstands . The bathroom area has individual cubicles for the toilet and shower but the rest is open. It might be awkward if you're not staying with a significant other!

How is the exec. lounge?
It's on the ground floor, next to reception and has an unusual layout. Very big with not a lot of people inside. There is a terrace outside which is amazing, though.
The breakfast buffet had a minimal selection of hot and cold items. The bonus was so many different hot sauces and salsa to choose from. Nothing made to order (from what I could tell).
Every night, there was a minimal variety of hot and cold items. Beer and wine, is self serve. Liquor is available from the bartender.
The lounge is only open for breakfast (630am - 1030am) and cocktail hour (6pm-8pm). You can't really just pop in during the day for some fruit or a bottle of water (again, from what I could tell)
** the club does have a huge selection of books, in case you run out of things to read at the beach!

Did you receive a welcome gift?
A bottle of anise liquor, some crackers and bruschetta in a jar. Received water daily. Also received vouchers for 2 free drinks at the bar.

How was the minibar?
Very basic. 6 Mexican beers, one small bottle each of rum, whisky, gin, tequila, vodka, a few mixers (nothing diet or reduced calories). No wine!?

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
  • Recognized as RA on check-in
  • The staff was friendly
  • Location and views were incredible
  • It's on an amazing beach
  • The room balcony was very nice to relax with a drink
    -Bad
  • Minimal room upgrade?

  • Value for $ or Priority Club Points?

Miami Doral

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Deluxe, received Club room.

How are the rooms?
I think a Club room is no different than a normal room. But still the rooms were renovated not too long ago and are nicely appointed. I was by myself so didn't press for a larger room.

How is the exec. lounge?
Average size, layout, F&B. At happy hour they had some kind of beef empanadas and cheese rolls. Breakfast was ok.

Did you receive a welcome gift?
Nice fruit and cheese platter.

How was the minibar?
Laurent-Perrier Champagne, red and white wine, Corona and Heineken, Herradura Tequila, etc. You need to ask for a mini-bar key at reception.

What was good and what was bad?

-Good
Room quality is much better than the usual airport hotel.
Free parking
Close to the outlet malls, Everglades, and you avoid most of the Miami traffic when driving north or south.
When you count free parking, it was almost $200 per night cheaper than the downtown IC. At least for my dates.

-Bad
Even with the nice room quality, it's still just an airport hotel.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?
Yes

Would you return?
Yes for the convenience.

InterContinental Osaka

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?

Spire Royal Ambassador

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Almost yes, except WiFi and Club Lounge Cocktail Time...

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked InterContinental Room, Received Club InterContinental View Room.

How are the rooms?
49SQM. 45inch LCD TV, Bose surround audio system, specious bathroom and walk-in closet, great mini-bar.

Video of Club InterContinental View Room:

How is the exec. lounge?
It was the best F&B services in Japanese InterContinental. But now is downhill.
Cocktail time meal became so shabby! Only served each one hot and cold small bite sized canapés plates, no second dish. Buffet table offer were cheeses, vegetable sticks, and small sweets only, that’s all! Terribly disappointed. IMHO, Crowne Plaza Osaka offer is much better.

Both Hot and Cold canapés plates. That’s all!

How was the mini-bar?
Still keep great mini-bar selections (Demi-bottle of Louis-Roederer Champagne, Demi-bottle of Calera Chardonnay Central Coast, The Macallan 12y, good selection of soft drinks, and the 3rd label of Chateau Haut Brion (Red & White).

What was your welcome gift?
Full bottle of Louis Roederer Champagne (Coz I'm bi-weekly regular guest), TWG Hotel original blend Tea Box, and honey pickles of Japanese Plum.

Did you receive fruit in the room?
I chose a snack instead of fruits.

What was good and what was bad?
Good
+++++++++ Guest Recognitions
+++++++++ Bar Adee
+++++ Location
+++++ Nice fitness, pool and Japanese Bathhouse

Bad
————— Cocktail Time meal in Club Lounge.
————— Unstable WiFi response. Terrible. Not acceptable. Need to fix immediately.

Value for $ or Rewards Club Points? Would you return?
Here is my “Home” in Osaka. But I think current public offered nightly rate is not justified in this situation.
