Update 2023:
- it seems no new RA have been invited by IHG
- criteria for RA requalification are still unknown
- geographical location of member / country account registration seems of some impact due of covid19(restrictions/availability)
- RA is processed in weekly batches starting december 2022
- proof by nicolas75 shows RA qualification for 2024 seems to be strictly based on IC hotels only (not Regent, Kimpton, SixSenses anymore)

As per Tim O'Brien's post about IHG-corporate explaining RA criteria:

As you are aware,
Royal Ambassador is our invitation only tier with the number of members invited each year
limited to ensure our hotels are able to consistently deliver on the benefits promise,
elevating your stay experience at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts.

Although we do not currently have a published criteria for Royal Ambassador,
consideration is determined by variable activities within a members account such as
- qualified paid room nights & spend across our luxury brands (, 2023 EDIT: Post-Pandemic from 2024 InterContinental only : Pre-Pandemic also Kimpton & Regent ) ,
- member region,
- primary hotels,
- category (of the hotel class / €$ĄŁ price levels compared to currency rates / competition / city / region / country / continent )
- tenure (repeat custom / average spend at hotel)
Accompanying or adjoining reservations,
such as the additional rooms of your family etc are not included for Royal Ambassador consideration
but are included in determining Spire Elite status within IHG Rewards Club
.

* FT:IHG forum community group consensus / empirical evidence shows
- that members must have stayed at different unique hotels per city / country / region / continent
the amount of uniques needed for RA qualification is unknown but generally extended long stays at just 1 hotel do not qualify
- IHG-corporate showing keen interest in how much guests are spending €$ĄŁ at hotel's own operated F&B / Spa / transport / extra services / other venues
atacama40 has given us insights that extra spend at the hotel charged to the hotelfolio generates EQP but also flags the database as high valued spending guest
- one must have AMB to get considered for RA invitation by IHG as they seem to evaluate over a longer period the length of one's tenure / devotion / spend / undisclosed criteria at stayed IC-hotels

Update 2020 / 2021:
RA status was extended due to the global pandemic of covid19

================================================== =======

Update 2019: The RA status granted at the start of the calendar year 2017 and 2018 has been based on IC revenue. As from 2019 criteria again have become vague. RA is not achieved through IC spend only. Other, unknown elements are taken into account as well. (Fact: Some users with very high +25k IC spend were not renewed in 2019.)

Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

[Archived - no longer valid] New (Royal) Ambassador Criteria

A document was unintentionally available in the internet about changes to the (Royal) Ambassador Qualifying and Re-Qualifying criteria.
The document is available on

http://viewfromthewing.img.boardinga...Ambassador.pdf

Older discussion
There was an ongoing discussion about the criteria for some time. This thread is now closed.

update from Executive Liaison Sept, 2023,
spend at other IHG luxury brands does count for RA, and Renewal.
Brands weren't stated, but reasonable to assume Six Senses, Regent, and Kimpton.

Not disagreeing with your point - just frustrated at the erosion of benefits and the requirement to social engineer my way in. I’ve gotten some far above and beyond treatment because I’ve made the effort to connect with the managers, but it’s always nice to have a defined base to start with.

i genuinely hope they resolve it before it comes to that to determine.

they are outrageous, limiting us to four digit pins, no third party security authentication, total lack of security.

i predict we will see some security changes implemented soon.

and the audacity of the supervisor i spoke with last night, who was the one that told me on Feb 7th, that it was general audit, said "well, the points were spent from your account" implying it was me.

you'd think their fraud department, with Apple, or the online retailer, could make determinations for example the source ordering originating ISP and address, and where the items were delivered?
Guessing that the number of points involved will trigger very deep investigation of the loss, and the original accrual methods. Personally I can’t understand why anyone would hoard so many points, knowing the IT issues and the devaluation risk. Raises a few questions ...

Should it really be needed to meet the management? I travel for leisure rather than business so the thought of having to make effort to meet with management during my personal time is not that appealing, I can sort of see why you would if on business as chances are you are on your own and might not have much else to do if you get some free time during your stay.

If you are staying at a property multiple times year in year out that should be enough to get the level of recognition people seem to be looking for, should not need to be having to seek out and be shaking hands with the GM every visit to get taken care of.

I have to say that as an Ambassador I have been looked after very well at properties I stay at regularly so would be very disappointed if that were to change this year as an RA if I book a lower category room as club is now included for me.

I like to think once you have attained RA, there is no need to have any relationship with management, they are there to serve us, supposedly their best customers = RAs

shoven has a good point, I really do not want to spend any time cultivating a relationship with any managers, I have better or more important things to do

Not true, for what is worth I have strong and good contacts with my regular repeating IC's. That is not going to help in the slightest though if a first time RA at an IC, or if IC itself has reduced planned upgrades for their RAs.

Regards meeting GMs, that is still rare, as GM often not visable even if on premises, OR manages multiple hoyels (eg Sydney/Melbourne areas GM). Some small number eg GM at IC Hanoi Westlake do make an effort if on premises.

A case in point would be IC Park Lane, as a somewhat regular, I have historically pre Jan2017 I have been upgraded to 1bed-suite and deluxe-suite approaching 50% of the time, and even once their 4th best suite. That is now definitely a thing of the past, and I am sure many other RAs were staying more nights per year there than me and are likewise disapointed goung forwards.

We also have some IC's counting a clubroom as the 2nd stage of a 2cat RA upgrade when in reality that results in just +1cat room upgrade with lounge benefit associated which RA already has. Historically I was very happy with somw very nice 1-room Junior/Srudio Suites on solo stays at various IC's, as always prefer sitting on a comfy sofa to poorer option of just armchair/bed/workdesk-chair in Exec/Club rooms.

Our experiences obviously differ.

had a phone call from Corp liason this afternoon, all points back in account, and open again.

they told me they stopped the shipments from the vendor.

said they accessed my account via what they consider a compromised email account, altered the email address, altered delivery address, then proceeded to order items online to be delivered to their address.

told they stopped the vendor from shipping, and got the recipient address.

i hope they prosecute.

25 is achieved in one year? Or total number of stay history?

Sorry, if 25 is total number of your stay history in ANA Tokyo, it’s not big number for them. It is quite ordinary guest for them. They have a lot of corporate or government guests. They have more than 20 people of RA guests every day. They have many guests who have more than 50 stays or hundred nights in annual. You guys should not expect too much if you JUST have a RA status only in here. At least ANA Tokyo is following T&Cs.

That's over two years, so divide by two. 65 nights in 2017 only. I refuse to believe that every government and corporate stayer bothers with status, are you sure they have 20+ RAs every day? I dunno, I know it's a huge property, but 65 nights in a single year should count for something, I think. I'm not asking for the presidential suite every time, but it'd be nice to get something more than the rule book as well.

Anyway, the lounge has improved a lot so I guess I don't complain too much, but still.

they've returned all the points.

i use them for leverage for upgrades, and mainly stay in presidential suites, and secondary, if booked. it's just a matter of cost benefit analysis, has worked well for me over the years. i am a happy camper^

How do you use them for leverage, out of curiosity? Do clerks get impressed at the mid seven figure balance? Or do you use them somehow?
