Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

i think it may be more than disconcerting for those that spent over the 10K net at IC properties (and some a lot more?) that didn't qualify, nor got challenge offers, prima facie, their hurdles, and objectives from the data points we have available here seem to be all over the shop, with one caveat, that the data we have is reliable.
That was me! Just barely $10k IC spend in 2018. No challenge offered. Three years as RA. Form letter responses to email inquiries. Oh well. I’ll miss the 8 am check-in and mini bar (but I guess so will those that were renewed).

I am currently staying at one of ICs in Vietnam.
During the check-in process when I was told about the 50USD mini-bar cap, I asked the staff if the price of each item is described in USD, which the person responded is yes saying the description is both in USD and local currency (VND).
The prices, however, are actually only in the local currency that you might know is a bit confusing for travelers not accustomed to VND descriptions (000 digits are omitted).
The mini-bar list also says service charges and taxes will be added to the prices.

My friends, I am not so stupid and yes, I can convert the currency, calculate total prices including taxes etc., but that is a bit bothering
Also confusing is the fact that the property does not charge soft drinks & beers regardless of being an RA or not but the list includes the prices of all items

They might as well have just pulled the mini bar benefit altogether, who honestly wants to be converting the local currency to dollars and then adding the tax in those places that have it separate from the price??? IHG have totally missed the point of what made the mini bar benefit unique for RA!!!

i would think you're right consuming up to and including USD50 excluding taxes, i wld email management at the property, so at least you have it in print.

and i'd ask them to confirm what FX rate they are using for the USD.

nice data point.

spoke to a contact at a property today, and she referred to two level RA upgrade.

we ended up agreeing on a five level upgrade form one above base level suite to their third top suite, 2,100sqft.

never give up hope. life is good.

they must have missed the email from corporate telling them to give RA's the same upgrade as Ambassadors?

Is that some sort of local promo? I have done something like that before in Asia where it made sense to break stays into 3 night increments.

Not sure why it’s mentioned here, it’s a promo that has been around since the start of the year and is open to all. Used it for a stay at the strings last month.

I just followed the link selected Hua Hin 1st of July to 5th selected a King club intercontinental room and it came up with the extend a night on us rate at the top, I'm planning on staying there in July also but for the room I like to be upgraded too it's not worth booking a Club rate so I think I will pass on using it in Hua Hin.

interesting because I ended the year with only $6k at ICs and spent the additional $2k at Kimptons.

Who knows how many of existing RAs and AMB will try to qualify for 2020 if it gets less and less worth chasing RA. Maybe the will have to correct criteria to X,000 USD
