Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

Inner Circle invitation criteria on 2019 RA Renewal

According to explanation, some Royal Ambassador residents in regional markets where have Kimpton hotels have been given a Inner Circle status to make them more experiences at Kimpton properties. Yes, this is a kind of the regional promotion.

However, I still think this is unfair. I understand the regional promotion is one of the effective marketing method. I don’t mind if the regional promotion is just gives a bonus point. But if the benefit is a highest status, it’s NOT acceptable coz it directly gives a impact to experiences at Kimpton properties.

It will definitely gives a impact to my stay activities. Of course, as a Royal Ambassador, I give a priority to InterContinental. But if the destination cities which do not have InterContinental properties, but have Kimpton, I will NOT choose Kimpton since I felt I received unfair treatment.

I hope IHG to provide Inner Circle status at least all of renewed RA members.

This is exactly my approach too. Once the dust settles I will reach out to the execs and say look, I'll stay at ICs, but unless I have IC I will choose Hyatt over Kimpton since there's obviously no reason to stay at Kimptons for me without IC.

Looks like arbitrary criteria are InterContinental’s new feature.

Still looking for renewal, with a few k over 10k...

“Luxuryloyalty” still with us?

The particular problem I found is that Spire at the one Kimpton I tried (Fitzroy) was totally useless effectively getting me only a £15 bar credit.

There is no way I am paying £250 a night plus and getting no real benefits and I resolved not to go back but now I have IC I will try them again and see if there is any difference. At least IC guarantees a one category upgrade.

Wrote in to the email provided and got denied RA with 20+k USD in qualified spending and <20 nights only at IC hotels. I am done with that brand - burning my points and will stay at true luxury hotels instead.

Very sad to hear such news. Again, very odd interpretation of customer orientation from IHG. However I would assume that, based on the data, you need 10k+ and 20+ nights at ICs in 2018 to get an invitation for RA.

I have written to the Corporate Office to check on perks for stays at Regent and Kimpton as well as if these spendings will be taken into account for RA evaluation, given that I generally have to make trips to Taipei where there is no IC available. This is the response provided:

Royal Ambassador is the exclusive invitational tier based on stay behaviours at InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, whilst IHG Rewards Club offers Spire Elite enabling our most loyal members to be recognised across the entire IHG portfolio. At this time only qualifying spend at InterContinental is one of the criteria’s required for Royal Ambassador consideration. As for your upcoming travels to Taipei, Regent Taipei and Kimpton Da An will recognise your IHG Rewards Club Spire Elite status and provide benefits accordingly subject to availability. This includes 10am check-in, late check-out and room upgrades.

Assuming if this is the case going forward, then it is going to be just one IC hotel in HK (that is, IC Grand Stanford Hotel) when I travel to HK, once the current IC HK is rebranded to Regent HK.

Really hope that they will fold at least, Regent hotel into IC AMB programme.

If you deconstruct that response it is currently true. Ambassador/RA stands alone currently as an IC only scheme but that is likely to change and incorporate both Regent and Kimpton as for what counts for RA renewal, they seem to make up those rules as they go along so it could switch to incorporate the other brands spend/stays at any point in time.

However Spire gives you no guarantee of anything, they do not have to give you early check in or late check out or indeed an upgrade. The upgrade was a massive issue at the Kimpton Fitzroy since the lower categories of room are so relatively small and poor especially at the price point. Kimpton IC does give you some specific guarantees one of which is a one category upgrade and also guaranteed early check in and late check out, which was hard fought in my only Kimpton stay to date as a Spire.

Whilst running 2 programmes in parallel as IHG has done to date is a bit odd it isn't entirely unprecedented (for instance Marriott had a similar structure at least until recently), however running 4 entirely separate programmes is just madness.

i received a welcome to Kimpton email today that states in part:

Something special arrived in the mail for you recently: your invitation to become an InterContinental®Royal Ambassador. As a member of this exclusive group of our most loyal members, and someone we truly appreciate, we’re also excited to welcome you into the exclusive Kimpton® Inner Circle for 2019. As an extension of IHG® Rewards Club Spire Elite status, Kimpton Inner Circle is reserved for our most valued members.

I just received my Royal Ambassador renewal email. I am not sure if this has already been discussed but my email doesn't say anywhere there is a $200 cap on the mini-bar per stay, just that it is limited to $50/night, specific wording is "Up to USD50 minibar credit for each night you stay", no asterisk after the wording or any other area in the email that states any maximum limitation per stay. Of course, up to $50/night can mean $1/night for 200 nights as there is a $200 cap per the website and T&C, but poor showing by them to not mention any cap in the renewal email.

if it doesn't impact you, re making fwd bookings etc, i guess you cld wait another week, and if in the event they haven't renewed you, then send an email to management.

All the best.
i got email that i am not renewed. Strange, as this was my highest spend ic year so far. Any suggestion whom at management should i contact? Thanks a lot.

I also just got my RA invitation email for 2019.
"Celebrating your 41 mornings....." You've startet 41 mornings with us in 10 countries around the globe...
But:
I have 5x paid + 10 reward nights (all IC) in my own statistics. .....
Strange.
