Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

If they sell to the hotels that RA is only the top 1%, then there is no other way than to keep it classified as "invitation only". They simply cannot publish any bar to reach. The only other option is to publish a bar and hope the hotels are OK with the numbers of RA"s well exceeding 1%. Personally I prefer they don't change the program at all.

You forget to mention that these are still the ones who spend way over 10k per year at IC properties. Since IHG is a company who wants to make profit, they should treat this customers better so that the „least loyal“ are going to spend over 10k in 2019 again. However as I can always vote with my wallet, there is no problem at all.

I strongly disagree that this is a good thing. RA should encourage new loyalty and keep the current and I mean extreme loyalty as it’s to one particular hotel brand and at the luxury end.

I guarentee that you wouldnt be saying this if you make 50 nights and 15k spend and they tell you not this year mate. You will ask why. You will also then look for a company who will reward your loyalty better.

You cant have a spend and number of night criteria if you want to be invite only. They are different beasts. Lets not fool ourselves, there are levels to reach and they are fixed. I used to think it was the top 1% or something but it can’t be as they are
manually reviewing all accounts (according to the email I got from IHG).

I know you are generalising here, but with about 160 nights in hotels last year I would have been a complete fool to put them all into one loyalty scheme. I understand your point though and agree you do want it to be the top end getting it. But even setting the bar high would be sufficient, as we all know there is already a bar to reach.

Expect from your friends and partner to be loyal.

For a business, let's be honest and clear, loyalty is always expressed in numbers. Bottom line, it is the only thing that matters.

How could anyone refute that for a business 20k revenue in 20 nights would not be much more advantageous than 20k revenue in 100 nights.

They really do not care what you do all the other nights. Or you could even argue that in that regard, the 20 night guys is much more interesting, as he has an unfilled potential of 345 nights, at a higher average rate. The latter only 245 nights, at a lower average rate.

Of course it is nice to sugarcoat things, and tell a compelling story.

It's unfortunate, that while IHG have their own formula for determining who to give RA to, they do continuously move the goalposts, so many of us don't know where we stand.
It's a bit of a kick in the nuts to long-standing and loyal members.

Or you just need to be lucky to get an offfer, have planned 2k spend in Nov/Dec and are guaranteed something only available based upon invitation...

Exactly. You have no loyalty. Clearly many, many others do show true loyalty and are the ones that are invited to be RA on a yearly basis regardless of made-up spend criteria.

Since when were “loyalty” schemes about loyalty? They are about motivating future stay patterns and behaviours.

Without RA which I originally came by as a referral, I have zero motivation to stay at IC properties. There are perhaps 2 I know that are unique enough that I might consider staying at them anyway but probably the additional $200+ a day rate would push me to alternatives.

My 2p on it is that I have no good reason to stay at IHG properties without RA and will just push more spend towards Hilton and Marriott which treat me decently with no randomness about what Inget, together with exploring more genuinely luxury properties like RC and 4S.

IHG also lose my circa 8k of non IC spend too so that’s $20k to the competition that I know broadly treats me well already and doesn’t make me beg for annual status renewal.

I suggest that we just agree to disagree as this becomes a pointless (and off-topic) discussion.

I just did an update to the list since many of us do not have edit rights to the wiki.

It looks like the threshold was around 12k USD net spend in ICs. Looks like it was calculated towards a maximum number of RAs for 2019 (per geography?).
It is not quite clear if there is an additional criteria such as 20 IC nights - but possible.
It also becomes clear that the challenge played an important role and seems to make the total spend irrelevant (in the positive and negative case).

Just FYI, I had 32 IC nights at 9 ICs last year. Still no activity on my account.

i question why they still send out kits in this electronic age?

i have never shown my card at a property, infact i don't even carry it in my wallet, as the property knows who you are if you've booked, and id you with a credit card, and photo id, license/passport.

they say they are delivering the BOGO electronically, so it's really just the luggage tags?

could easily be promoted as a green initiative.
