Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

Yes, but you said you got the RA kit message in your activity on 27th. Probably the renewal mail invites are not out yet. Ill update your spend.

Another point to note from the RA invite email - status start on 4 February. A bit random...? Any other RA 2019 email recipients have the same?

Personally a little annoying as my first big stay is 31Jan - 5 Feb.

Received the RA kit on Dec 27 in my account, no challenge as well as no confirmation mail so far. Spend solely at IC was 16950 USD with some 60 nights in 10 different ICs

I ended up 2018 with 77/62/8 with 12042 USD IC net spend counted via base points, -not- via ca. 300,000 EQP, because I had many bonus points packages in the first months of 2018. I didn't get any challenge.

No email yet, but on my IHG Account Activity, "Upgrade to Inner Circle" and "Royal Ambassador Status" both posted today. I only stayed at a Kimpton one night last year. My Ambassador card on the app now indicates Royal exp 30 Dec 2019

All Royal Ambassador benefits will be available from 01 February, 2019 being the new effective date of the programme benefit changes. 04 February is the date in which your new Free Night at an IHG hotel will begin to be deposited into your account.

While individual hotels of course welcome those who spend generously per night, IHG itself has a special place in its heart for those who who spend substantial amounts overall and stay frequently at ICs and other IHG branded hotels. There's the tension: persuading managers and owners that it's in their long-term interest to support the programme, even though they might see little benefit from some individual guests.

Perhaps tedious to follow through on that, but a central aim of the programme is to ensure that Madrid's cherished frequent guests continue to get high levels of service on a one-off, one-night stay in Jakarta. So Madrid learns to be kind to the one-off visitor. Most hotels get it, but some drag their heels a little.

Same tension among airline and their alliance masters: Qatar resents giving benefits to the rag tag and bobtails of its partner airlines: so it doesn't, or soes so selectively.

I think we agree that no singe metric is entirely satisfactory. It takes some eyeballing of spend, nights, brands and geographic spread. Spend per stay/night naturally falls out of those data.

it is apparent the sweeps are weekly, nothing random i suspect.

you had line item on Dec 21, many others received a week later on Dec 27, the last two years, the key date was Jan 4th, ie a week after the 27th.

i would let the property know you are RA, and show them your account if need be. the line item from Dec 21st.

by the time you check out you will receive the bonus points etc, you just need to let them know upfront to get your stay benefits.

Taking the DXB FC offering it isn't even a bad thing as they offer continuous refills. I think the properties which will be reluctant to implement this will be those in locations where low numbers of staff are deployed in the lounge (e.g. IC O2 London, or IC SFO). A move to a plated delivered food offering does not have to be a bad thing.
anyone stayed at the Costa Rica property? two alcoholic beverage limit, then required payment?

could be, his reference to "all IC's" may have been "all in Canada"

i couldn't see it in Asia, Dubai, and Europe, maybe Aus, and Canada.

the problem there is they charge for alcohol, under a false pretense of liquor licensing issues, claiming they are not allowed to give alcohol away, which is nonsense.

Montreal, by comparison, has a great lounge, extremely well managed by Leisure Suit Larry ( who's been there for 27 yrs, started at the open), Julio, Michelle, and Franco all do a superb job. great service, and pretty good selection (maybe up until Jan 1st, 2019?)

I didn't receive the RA renewal email and I guess I am going to be downgraded this year. No challenge was issued earlier. I have done a re-count and my stats are as follows (after all the adjusted stays):

Total Revenue Nights in IHG: 44
Total Revenue Nights in IC: 37
# of IC hotels stayed for year: 6
Total Spent in IC hotels: USD10,142.16
IHG member since: Y2002
IC RA member since: Y2014

I have written to [email protected] to enquire on renewal status given that there are a couple of adjusted stays, and as expected, the response is not very helpful (appended below). Any chance that I can appeal to get a review of the status, as there are a couple of manual adjusted stay that were incorrectly posted and they have given me "goodwill points" after several occasions of incorrectly posted stays.

Thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

Dear Mr. hclee01,

Warm greetings from the InterContinental Ambassador Service Center!

Glad to know that you are enjoying the many benefits of the Ambassador and thanks for being a loyal member to InterContinental Hotels and Resorts.

As you know that Royal Ambassador status is extended by invitation only. I'm sorry as even us here at Ambassador Services we have no way of checking who gets to be invited to Royal Ambassador. Rest assured that your InterContinental Hotel stay activities will be closely monitored.

Thank you for your patience on this matter.

Thanks for being a valued Royal Ambassador member and thank you for giving us the opportunity to be of service to you. We look forward to welcoming you at an InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in the near future.
