Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

its IC only, to the best of our knowledge.

Over the years their Club access policy for RA's has gone on and off and on several times. But even during the periods where they did not give RA's access to the club, they always gave me access to the club as a frequent guest. I think at this point even if I lose RA status I will still have an RA experience at Le Grand.

Further I've found that when I am well known to the club staff at most any IC, they will give me a further upgrade than what the hotel had originally upgraded me to.
Ditto here. And echo the on/off/on/off/on experience at Paris Grand, even got Club for free stays during off times.
Frequent stayers get more "VIP" points than one-time RAs.
It's fun sometimes to ask how many times I've stayed at a hotel (and even better when they proactively offer) ... occasionally you hit a milestone such as 10 or 25 stays, and then you may get something like a bottle of champagne or special upgrade.
It's those extra perks that make a difference.

Agree, am well over 100 stays at IC Singapore and I don’t think it would make a difference if I lost RA.

Yup. Not in Tokyo you won't. I'm at ... 30-some stays of a week each, and I still have to argue every time to get more than a 2-level upgrade. Forget about a bottle of cheap bubbly!

[edit] i actually emailed them to ask, if i do a single night on points for a family weekend, will they make an exception and grant benefits?

NOPE.

Even if someone is a local VIP customer who staying and spending a lot, hotels usually don't want to give any benefits unless stated explicitly. I'm also a local VIP at some of ICs and they gave me some benefits as an exception, but it's because I'm a RA basically. I don't think they will grant me an access to a club lounge or give me a free minibar if I lose my RA status.

I agree, I’m a regular at IC Dusseldorf and do not get any special treatment as an Ambassador. Just the “upgrade” to a high floor

This just speaks to a relative lack of “high-ended’ness” at IC, despite them claiming otherwise. There are bajillions of Fairmont Platinums - credit cards, “easy” Air Canada status offers (three nights to Platinum, anyone?) etc - and yet, most Fairmonts, when I visit a couple of times, they make an actual effort to recognise me and welcome me as a repeat guest.

Depends on the individual IC and how regular you have been as repeating lomgterm multi-year multi-night guest on paid nights. Upgrade+Lounge access is almost a zero cost to the hotel and they keep your business rather than lose you to a nearby HH/MR chain hotel where status is easier to obtain/renew.

Dropping RA to plain Ambassador at your regular IC in the past was not unusual to still get all the RA benefits (early checkin, RA Upgrade as before, even foc lounge access ) with exception of foc minibar.

as a loyal stayer, with a good property relationship, i can see them giving you generous upgrades, club access, and maybe even breakfast, but i can't imagine a signature RA benefit like minibar being given.

I've had success in IC Tokyo Bay, IC Yokohama and IC Osaka. IC ANA Roppongi has been mixed. IC Strings -- nothing. Stick to the minimum rules; "2 levels" are a joke -- same sized room, better toiletries. Long ago RAs would get free breakfast and free evening happy hour at the bar; they nixed that. But I have had free minibar and other benefits on free nights.
