Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

Wow. That was quick. Glad it's been resolved so soon, and as you said, I hope the culprit is prosecuted.

Yes, I heard this story from ex-GM, and ex-Club Manager.
Thatís a reason of why they stopped to granted Club Access to RAs several years ago.

yes relieved.

he referred to different dept that makes the call on a cost analysis basis, of whether they pursue prosecution. i suspect as corporate, as long as they haven't lost the points, i'm guessing they probably don't. If they're chasing a loss, i think they may.

he told me they intervened, and stopped the transaction, so didn't have to compensate the vendor. he also said they captured the physical delivery address that had been changed in my account, so you'd hope they'd inform the authorities, and have the perpetrator pursued. as there wld be no cost to IHG at that point, other than some employee time. they need to deter the bad guys.

Have to say it does tend to help get some focus in my experience. I don't quite have as many as Tim but not far off and when it's noticed it does definitely get you a little attention and extra effort.

Also GM's do tend to come and say hello I'd say well over 50% of the time I'd say.....although never yet for me at PL....think there and HKG are the only ones. And I do believe that helps if you can strike up a few words and experiences shared. This for me is a must especially for repeat stays. Some of them are a little perfunctory, some are very entertaining and good company in fact. I find a few words of future plans and ideas and most are more than happy to offer up help without twisting their arm.

Agree that .... you never need to mention, they often see and comment. I guess it's an opener for them conversation wise and then you get an 'in' for experiences and likes. Most I find are happy to help. It's a barter chip to talk without sounding attention seeking I find.

Is a point, it takes a little time but in my experience the RA rules are irrelevant if you can spend a little time .... they will and do look after you....certainly in most ME and FE areas .... maybe with the exception BKK and HKG who are a little more rules based and just polite.

But SIN, KL, all Vietnam IC's and all China area IC's are first class. They appreciate the discussion and look after way and beyond the base rules. Also Euro area ones in the main. US ones I have less luck with to date.

And in fairness it can swing the other way were senior managers are asked to engage with you almost none stop .... that can be a little hard work and time consuming when you trying to have breakfast and holding court :-) ... but that is not so often.

But a little human engagement has got me amazing results over the last couple of decades.

I'm not asking for the presidential suite every time, but it'd be nice to get something more than the rule book as well.

Anyway, the lounge has improved a lot so I guess I don't complain too much, but still.
Agreed the lounge is pretty good now. 20+ sounds like a high number, but we're not uncommon at the ANA InterContinental. But it would make sense to befriend the GM and/or reservations folks. Japanese, though, are very good at "sticking to the rules" (IHG rewards credit for only one room/night even when you book multiples) but I've had them go above and beyond on occasion -- for example giving a decent rate (30K JPY instead of some 80K rack rate) on a sold-out night when I had stays before and after. Things like that.

The IC Tokyo Bay does better on upgrades -- but their Club Lounge is much more modest, and closes early (they reopen it as a late-night bar at absurd prices). And it's usually a bit cheaper.

The IC Strings, while a lovely hotel, is the worst -- they don't have a Club at all (in days past they at least gave free breakfast and free drinks during happy hour) and their "upgrades" are risible; the rooms are all virtually the same size, so a 2-class upgrade is virtually indistinguishable from the original.

Hi all,

I am wondering how are the rebate sites (i.e. TCB) play with the RA qualification, are the amounts received from them excluded from the $10k or is it safe to assume that 100 000 IC only EQPs will achieve RA?

Thank you in advance.

No idea, but it is never a good thing to shoot at absolute minimum, which us10++ is only empirically known, and not published, IHG could easily make higher next year

Even more so bad idea, in that unlike under old 60/20/3 (75/30/3) targets, if you fail/miss-out by $50 in 2018, you can't simply stay early Jan to correct, or spend 10k in jan+Feb on IC stays
i)only spend Jan-Dec counts
ii)RA only processed once per year, which annoyingly if one drops RA sdtatus, means a load of IC nights in Jan-July costing 10k++ to hit target won't get you immediate RA like in the past when could qualify 365days a year.

the supposedly new RA qualifying requirements has definitely cost IHG lots of money IMO

it is such a relief not to feel the need to stay in al these crappy HI properties like in the past

have really been enjoying my stays at various Conrad + Hilton properties ;-)

shh! iíve been LOVING it! $7K of stays this year so far and not one night in a non-IC. best program decision ever. although to be fair, one of my more interesting travel experiences was back when nights counted and I flew to Wakkanai because it had a $6/night rate at a Crowne Plaza that I was going to use for 30 nights to top up. Well, no more of that!

I personally really like the RA changes for the most part. I donít like the uncertainty of whether or not I will attain it but I genuinely appreciate the guaranteed lounge access and the more clarity over the benefits.
