Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

IHG had a tough enough job persuading ICs to offer "universal" club access and other refinements to RAs. The quid pro quo was convincing the hotel owners and managers that RAs were contributing substantial revenue to the IC pool. The reaction of that hard-nosed crew to news that they'd be asked to provide the same high level facilities for a further twenty, thirty or more years to guests no longer satisfying any revenue requirements isn't hard to imagine.

I'm not suggesting that all life-time RAs would behave in an opportunistic way, but human nature being what it is there'd likely be a significant subset out to maximise their programme benefits over a couple of decades.
I wonder if this is a similar argument to the different approaches to airline upgrades? I understand that some US airlines will keep offering incentives and making award seats available in premium cabins until the plane is full, whereas BA willl certainly not do that in order to protect the brand.

IHG has a UK heritage and maybe their approach to revenue management is more like BA than Hilton.

Neither is wrong, just different approaches.

I think the best lifetime award you could expect might be Spire. Something of marginal utility for guests, and little inconvenience to hotel management. And even then there'd have to something like the Lufthansa caveat restricting the duration of the award by granting it only to those over 60 years of age. Knowing IHG, that would be upped to 75....

I was certainly treated very well in 2017. Suite upgrades at least 90% of the time. Presidential Suite twice. 5 tier upgrade on another occasion. Can't complain at all. It does depend on where you stay of course, how often you stay at particular venues and also when you are a newbie at a hotel and if you select the very bottom rate at new hotels you are not known at or go for a mid-tier room.

If you are Royal and therefore Spire the gift actually only comes when you would achieve "the normal way" to spire.
i had that last year too.........

My elite rollover nights havn't been shown automatically.
I wrote an email to the Ambassador desk and they added a small number of nights (I think they didn't take reward nights into account). I had to write a second mail, asking them to take reward nights into account.
Thanks to my detailled stay-statistic (Excelsheet)....

i just read for Ambassador, they've increased the point payment from 32K to 40K, and have left the cash option at $200.

notwithstanding being RA, then i saw, a renewal offer $150 sitting in the Ambassador benefits page?

and RA year valid to Dec 29, 2018. Their IT is really something special

i read an ambiguous comment about ambassador benefits at Kimpton, that had me wondering about the possibility of RA benefits at Kimpton, that would make a lot of sense from IHG's positioning perspective, and given the inadequacies of the IC footprint.

has anyone had any experience staying at Kimpton, receiving benefits, extent of upgrades, minibar?

If RA benefits applied at Kimpton and spend counted towards requalification I'd be staying there a lot.

Kimpton's positioning is most similar to IC in the portfolio, i can't see why they wouldn't consider it, given the major downside for IC is the lack of footprint.

Including Kimpton would be a first step in mitigating that issue.

including Kimpton would have almost zero effect on RAs outside North America who did not travel there often

Lets hope IHG expand the Kimpton brand outside of North America otherwise any RA benefit won't be of any use to those that don't travel to the USA.

if you're in Asia, you're pretty well covered, mainland China, what four in PVG......

two in HK.........

my point is it wld be a good first step in the right direction.

i expect they plan to develop the Kimpton brand too, outside of NA. they're into worldwide brands.
