Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

Considering the data points provided here, I think it can definitively be decided that the criteria is $10k spend at ICs only, with other IHG stays or spend irrelevant.

Two data points from this observation.

1. I don't think it's exactly 10K because there are some people upthread with "around" 10K which didn't get renewed, but it does seem that the magic number is around there somewhere.
2. (and this is somewhat unexpected for me, anyway) but it seems unchanged from last year. I thought that "most" RAs, knowing that the limit is "somewhere around 10K", would do their utmost to just hit like $15K to "be safe" -- and as a result, would drive up the average, with us once again ending up in the same craphole we were at last year, but at the 15K level. It appears that this did not happen: even if the "top 1%" average (per their opaque definition) did go up, they didn't change the qualification level. I know I panicked and spent a lot more than I needed to, so I thought others would, as well.

Of course, this means nothing for next year, they might just make it 20K because you know... potatoes.

I was renewed but I do not think it is solely based on spend

they want to see a variety of IC locations too and your past history must have some weight (even IHG is not that illogical to ignore that)

if there was an IC in the location I was travelling, I usually booked it, that was the best I could do

I did not count my actual IC spend or nights but guessing I was around 10k and 40 to 50 nights

in 2017 I still booked HI, CP and Indigo for total of EQP 16,000

in 2018 will avoid most HI ,HIEX and Indigo but I have had good luck at some CP properties, almost RA treatment

best of luck to everyone in 2018

Re-qualified in 2018 year

Spent a lot of money and nights at IC properties this year both business and personal purposes.

Majority at IC MEL - at least 75 nights there!
then IC Tokyo Bay /Tokyo ANA/Osaka/ Yokohama/HK/Pattaya/Singapore - approx. 25 nights in total!

unfortunately , i can't remember the exact eqp sorry ,but there were a lot.. i believe the total net spent for the year is approx 15000USD.

however , My 2018 travel plan will be majority in EU which I don't see many ICs ....I will need to plan ahead of how am I going to attack this !

another year of RA! Yesssssss!!!!

Just as a guess: they are trying to make it more difficult for mainland China. My rates are well below 100 EUR in some places in China and I see some of my staff having spend 70 or 80 nights not being renewed. I personally got renewed with less than 50 IC nights but more than 20k USD spend.

However, account "Member materials" now show Spire Ambassador valid until the end of 2018.

i've had several adjusted stays. In the past, when qualification was based on nights, it was fairly simple to have a manual re-count. What do I do now it's allegedly based on revenue?
i'd send an email, and explain the adjusted stays, and your concerns that some may have fallen through the cracks, and provide them some stats, featuring your EQP's generated at IC, and spend.

all the best, a personal email can't hurt, and could make all the difference.

congratulations, and to all others that have re qualified.

and to all those that believe they may have a chance, based on the feedback from those that have made the hurdle, i highly recommend an email to the head of the program.

there was a joy of joy last year, from those that didn't initially re-qualify, but ultimately did, after a note to Ruth Negus.

Spire has some value at a very limited number of Holiday Inns and Crowne Plazas, and I have to use up a million and a half points So they'll get the nights, but little revenue.

78 paid IC nights and 50 in other IHG properties. No idea of my IC spend, but it was mainly cheaper Asia places this year, so probably hovering around $10K. It frustrates me that an organisation i've worked with for fifteen years can be so short-sighted, so cavalier, but it is what it is: i'll go quietly!

yes, i had a stay in Dec 29, out Jan 2, and the four nights posted with the EQP points, c.23,600 on Jan 4th.

so for the purpose of the stats, i guess technically i re qualified with 25 IC nights, 2 non IC IHG nights, and c. 318,376 EQP's, c. USD32K spend.

or 29 IC Nights 2 Non IC IHG nights, 341,976 EQP's if they included the stay that was three nights in 2017?

i wld definitely write a note..............

imagine if they had an algorithm that overlooked all your non IC nights, that a reasonable person could adjust for you.

i would

absolutely no downside.. .
