Update December 2018: it looks like some accounts are proactively being renewed in December 2018, well ahead of the stated expiration of Jan 31, 2019. It is currently unknown what criteria were used, but previous years appeared to indicate around $10K++ in IC spend only.

As before, please Divide EQPs by 10 to get $$$ Spend

I too hope to use my points for fully sold out properties but the majority of hotels are not 100% occupied throughout the year

i often redeem award nights at almost fully sold out properties when the property is likely to be getting quite a bit more than a typical corporate rate for the award stay.
So do I, currently in an award room that would normally cost $500 a night, and the hotel is getting that, yet not having to honour any paid stay benefits, other programs leave IHG for dead in that regards. Your points have value, unless your IHG

i know there's a lot of hate for award stays, but every award stay i've done at an IC i was granted ALL of the RA benefits: upgrades to suites, free minibar (being the important ones). while they may not get counted as stays, i at least get the benefits i want most

if you're utilizing award night/s, and doing multiple nights, and have at least one paid night, get all your spend put into the paid night in the folio, so it's qualifying for RA.

It actually doesnít mean anything. Most properties will look at your status, see itís RA and just do it shortly after you booked; and if you donít get renewed, chances are high you might luck out and theyíll forget to downgrade you.

On pins and needles, waiting to see if I'm invited back to RA for 2018, as this will affect so many travel plans for next year! In the immediate future, I have a paid reservation at IC Lisbon 11-15 Jan that I will change to HIExp Lisbon with points if not "invited back".
Ended up at $13k IC spend (pre tax), 54 IC nights (99 IHG totally, $15k IHG spend) at 13 different IC properties in 9 different countries. Probably at the lower end of RA renewals, so fingers are crossed.

i wouldn't worry too much, i think you'll re qual easily, based on the USD13K spend.

am i reading that right, USD2K spend for IHG 45 nights, that's excellent value, if i'm understanding that correctly? ADR USD44.44? corp rates? nice value

Camcelling stays in 2018

I had by far my highest RA numbers ever in 2017 -- over 100 QNs and over $22k USD Qspend, but since the people who run this program are apparently clueless, I have cancelled my January stays while they figure out my staus. The is pathetic. Glad I kept Hyatt as a backup.

I should have clarified! Of the 45 IHG nights, 13 were rollover from 2016 and 13 were reward night stays.

i wouldn't worry at all, you've requalified, the speculation on US spend is around the 8-12K, with a highly likely USD10K threshold being the hurdle.

it really doesn't matter too much, in any case, given the non IC nights/spend don't count for RA anymore, but your USD13K IC spend should have you requalified

As confidently expected to occur/show on 1st Jan 2018, following same delay in Jan2017 (now Jan 2nd already for me ! )

1. IHG Android Phone App on 1st Jan 2018 still shows my Card displays as Amb/ROYAL exp 30/Dec/17
2. IHG website Account shows me still as Royal Ambassador (similar to 1-3 Jan 2017 wait/overlap when waiting on my RA renewal)

Hopefully come 4th Jan 2018, we will finally be enlightened and put out of our misery/suspense by IHGs Amb Service Dept

Yup. 2nd January dawned in Jakarta, and I'm still no wiser. Points and stays have been efficiently zeroed to start the new year. RA status shows as current, but with 31 December 2017 as expiry date.......

The Points for my Dec 27 to Dec 30 stay are not posting yet.
As this stay would allow me to cross the 11k USD spending mark, I foresee that my RA renewal will be quite hectic process this year (As I won't be able to claim for my missing points until Jan 6, 2108).
I am looking forward for the email exchanges with the customer care representatives and eagerly awaiting for their highly informative replies (" Royal Ambassador status is extended by invitation only to a small percentage of our InterContinental Ambassador members")
