Please post your Royal Ambassador experiences (Archive Thread 2012)

I thought I start a thread to post Royal Ambassador experiences:

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
- How are the rooms?
- How is the exec. lounge?
- What was good and what was bad?
- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Generally yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Points room, upgraded to "Executive room" which is a modest upgrade.

- How are the rooms?
Nice. Elegant. 1st floor recently refurbished.

- How is the exec. lounge?
Not offered even on paid stays (you can by up).

- What was good and what was bad?
Some chaos on 1 January as to be expected with guests still reeling.
But overall, nice and professional.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Many time repeat stayer but frankly I'm looking forward to the new IC opening in London. For $, price generally a tad high for what you get.

About 6 out of 10.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King room. Got executive room on Club floor.

- How are the rooms?
Tasteful. Nondescript. Good view of CN Tower.

- How is the exec. lounge?
Nice, good food spread (one could skip dinner). Maddeningly, they charge you for liquor! But tell you you can go to your minibar and get free booze. Ridiculous.
Good breakfast.

- What was good and what was bad?
The name. The other IC (Yorkville) is actually more in the city "centre" than this one. This is by the lakeside next to CN tower and the main train station. Hardly the "centre"
Parking is expensive.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
For 171 CAD - but plus tax - it's a decent price.
Generally I prefer the Yorkville even though there is no lounge. But that's usually more money.

Delighted.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Prepaid 139 euro rate. Upgraded to 2-room suite.

- How are the rooms?
Quite nicely done.

- How is the exec. lounge?
Very nice. Glad this came as a benefit. Decent city views. Good drinks, snacks, breakfast.

- What was good and what was bad?
Nice free bottle of wine as gift.
Parking is 40 Euro. Ridonculous. The city is bad for parking but this is not good (note that one of the IC websites has parking at 40 KCs, which would be $2 ... they're off by a factor of 25).
Only other downside is from the outside, this is singularly the ugliest IC in the world, and the ugliest building in a town full of beautiful structures. It was built during the Soviet era, which explains everything.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Even though there are many charming places to stay in Prague I always stay here. Probably wouldn't if I didn't get the RA treatment though.

IC Vienna Wien

Absolutely delighted. Great New Years Eve hospitality.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Points room. Got room 1202 (suite, 2 baths) on Club floor with club access.

How are the rooms?
Very nicely appointed, nice minibar, they has a bottle of Nicolas Feuillette champagne also for the occasion. Gift a 1/2 bottle of Austrian Red and lots of little Viennese delights.

How is the exec. lounge?
Very good lounge. Breakfast hot and cold.
Wine and beer and drinks all day long (except midnight-6 am).
Evening cocktails have lots of little hors d'oeuvres that are great but don't expect to get filled up and skip dinner. Which you shouldn't in Vienna!

What was good and what was bad?
Outstanding hospitality.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Of course.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard room booked upgraded to suite.

- How are the rooms?
Hip and modern.

- How is the exec. lounge?
No lounge (STILL) but you get breakfast in the restaurant (which took over the lounge). Supposedly the new restaurant will be opening soon, and then the lounge will return.
Got the free breakfast vouchers and free drink coupons but had to ask for them ... previously volunteered.

- What was good and what was bad?
Bad - getting to town.
Good - getting to ORD.
Friendly staff.
Interesting art collection.
Parking $22 is not a good deal. I'm sure someone can find something within walking distance that's cheaper or even free if you can walk 5 blocks.

- Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Price was $90 over the holidays; at that rate it's a bargain. At $180 it is not.

What is your Priority Club status?

Disappointing

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

I booked an executice room and received an upgrade to a one bedroom suite without any view.

How are the rooms?

The first room we had smelled smokey. Somebody had been smoking cigars in there. Complained to front desk. The argued (a) that all their suites are smokers' rooms and (b) they had no other room available at this time of the the day. I than asked for an interim room which they said they could not provide. I started to get angry and said they had to provide this according to the rules and all of a sudden anonther suite became available.

How is the exec. lounge?

In genral good value, however, they admitted having overbooked and it was hard to impossible to get a seat there at rush hour. On new years eve we left without having a drink since it was a pub athmosphere with people queing and having a quick drink while standing. We than returned afted dinner and a show close to midnight to watch the fireworks from there. Amazingly they closed the club shortly before midnight - strange. Service was sloppy, the next morning we had to wait close to 30 minutes even to get tea not to talk about breakfast. Place looked unclean with food on the carpet.

Did you receive a welcome gift?

Yes, three oranges

How was the minibar?

Great. We made extensive use of it to make good for the capacity problems at the club. On day two it had not been restoced and we had to call twice to get it restocked.

What was good and what was bad?

see above. Quite a few little shortcomings more I refrain from menitoning.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?

Under the given circumstances - no. And to my belief they cannot find the excuse that it was New Years Eve. This did not come as a surprise and to our belief most of the shortcomings were management problems.

Would you return?

The Hilton next door did not only offer by far better value for money but certainly better service and a better (free) club. Most likely this hotel will not see me again, I have the choice between Hilton, Starwood and IC and IC did not pass the test.

Very good stay

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

I booked a "superior room", and received an upgrade to a "panoramic suite".

How are the rooms?

Classic, perfect value for money

How is the exec. lounge?

Excellent value, free for RAs. Breakfast, very nice staff who greats me by name.

Did you receive a welcome gift?

yes

How was the minibar?

Standard minibar, not really something to write home about and nothing to complain. Two minibars in the one suite, so easy to have a party there. All snacks are included too.

What was good and what was bad?

perfect stay.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points?

Yes

Would you return?
