Per the PC T&C

Points for Elite Status – For purposes of determining Elite status, IHG® Rewards Club points are classified as either Qualifying Points or Non-Qualifying Points. Points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, spend on IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner activity, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages, and Qualified Spend through IHG® Business Rewards are considered Qualifying Points and are counted towards Elite status. A Qualifying Rate includes the following: non-discounted rate, standard corporate rate, worldwide sales negotiated rate, national/regional/local government rate and specified leisure rates as confirmed by the IHG reservation system. All other point earning transactions, including points earned from IHG® promotions, Elite status bonuses, activation bonuses or select promotions offered through IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner promotions, point vouchers, point purchases, point transfers, and point deposits, will be considered Non-Qualifying Points and will not be counted towards Elite status.
For any IHG property, including the ones listed below, it's a good idea to check the IHG app for additional bonus point packages. For whatever reason, the IHG website does not always include all points packages that can be found in the app.

I have another 10k point package coming up this week and will let you know! I am sure I will have to go through the same process.

For the 10k point package the rate rule states "Book this rate and get 10000 additional Rewards Club points per stay"

The wording I find different from package to package is "Rewards Club Points" and "IHG Club Bonus Points"

You would think each hotel would call them by the same name.

By the way the hotel I am booking tomorrow night....the room and the points package are the same price. So its $174 for the room and if you click on packages its $174 for 10k the points. Weird!

Cool! What I'm really interested to know is how consistent is IHG CS - if your points don't post and IHG CS constantly re-post them as qualifying then I think it's a sweet deal to get Spire.

You got the advertised 10k, which are issued as hotel-bonus points as under a hotel-promotion/offer, not the EQP type IHG-promo/offer, and thus posted as standard reward club points, they are not eligible to be posted as EQPs

a)you got lucky. the ihger should not have done that for you
b)if you chance again by following up to get changed after next stay, if you get a correctly informed ihger, then as well as being told no, that ihger may reverse last times EQP win to non-EQP

Scuba, does it state anywhere in terms and conditions that 10k bonus points packages are not qualifying points? The rate details for both the 10k and 5k are the same terms.

Also I did the live online chat and the agent told me they would get these switched to qualifying. Then the email I got was from a totally different agent. So there was 2 agents that did that for me.

Last year for me the 10k points posted directly as qualifying.

Not saying you are wrong....just seems like IHG should mandate all hotels post in their terms they are not qualifying.

I will achieve spire anyway without the 10k point packages so its not that huge deal to me. Be interesting to see what happens and I will keep everyone updated.

People only have to 6 stays to get spire then! I would assume if this starts happening, IHG would really look into it!

I think IHG knows - it's like 8 meetings for Marriott Platinum. I think IHG keeps it because it makes their hotels happy.

It is all in the IHG main t+c's etc, actually in multiple places, main t+c's, and the terms for booking the official IHG EQP Bonus points "packages". So, no, points are only EQP if stated in such offers that they will be given out as EQP.

You can not infer anywhere that the lack of a statement makes this ambiguous, shops/businesses etc will list and tell you an "extra positivse" ie what something gives you, you can never infer that because description did not state a lack of something you want (in this case EQP) that they will be. It is the other way arounf, the fact the positive in description is missing means they are not.

So after today I am so confused now. I stayed in a Holiday Inn last night that offered a 5,000 points bonus points package and today it posted as its own line as "Hotel Promotion Bonus Points." Those 5,000 didn't go to my qualifying points/status. This is the same way my 10k posted.

But last week I stayed at a different Holiday Inn and the 5,000 points package posted along with my stay under the base points and elite bonus points. Those 5,000 points posted to my qualifying points/status. Last year all of my 5k points posted that way.

So are the 5,000 packages supposed to be non qualifying as well?

You can only count on the bonus points to be considered qualifying if you book them through the Best Flexible Rate or Your Rate and select the bonus points additionally. I recommend to do it with the web version, select "Your Rate" and just add the X,000 points per night.

Will be interesting to see if the IHG CS will convert the points to EQP, please report back!

It won't come to a difference in regard to points posting qualifying. The will post qualifying as long as you book them through Your Rate or Best Flexible Rate.
But if you are looking for 5,000 BPT per night, you will pay more with the app because the nightly 5,000 extra points can only be added through costlier Best Flexible Rate.
Via web version you will save up to 5% adding the 5,000 BPT to Your Rate, which has never been possible when trying to book via app.

Unless you are into cash-back, IHG website can save you up to 8% as today (can be up to 15% on seasonal promotion). As until now, cash-back website/app can only redirect you to IHG website not the App. Only book myself on the App if any specific task to do so under quarterly Accelerate promo.

Update on the scenario above. So I paid money got the 5,000 point package. Before the actual stay posted.....for the hotel I got 5,000 points posted as Hotel Promotion Bonus Points. Then today when the stay posted I got base points, elite bonus points, and bonus point package of 5,000.

So I keep a excel spread sheet of all my points and stays. So I was given 10k bonus points when I was only supposed to get 5k from the bonus points package. If they audit my account I am sure they will take those away.

The 5,000 points that was posted with the stay went to my Elite Status points. Now in 4 nights I have 26,670 elite qualifying points. Done 1 10k package, 2 5k packages, and 1 regular stay.

I emailed IHG yesterday and told them I had 3 stays (27k worth of bonus points packages) were I had (two) 10k packages and a 7k package that didn't post as qualifying. Today got a email back that they posted as elite qualifying. They did the same thing as before and subtracted each one as "Rewards Club Goodwill" posted them as "Loyalty Goodwill" they are now qualifying.

3rd agent this year that has done it for me. So in 8 stays now I have 58,840 elite qualifying points.

So technically if you did 7 10k packages you could be spire elite.
