I always wonder if you can made the booking yourself first, then call in and ask for refund. Anyone had done that last year? Did they force you to cancel to rebook?

We emptied my wife's account of Priority Club points and I used the 15,000 points I had as well in order to beat the devaluation and take advantage of the temporary point reduction.

We booked the Holiday Inn SoHo for four nights at the former rate of 25,000. It is now 35,000. We booked the Crowne Plaza Hamilton in Washington DC for three nights at the reduced 15,000 points. It is now 35,000. And we booked the Crowne Plaza Astor Hotel in New Orleans for two nights reduced at 15,000. It is now 35,000.

Total point spending from our accounts was 85,000 points. We purchased 90,000 points at the time of booking for a total of $630. So our total points used was 175,000. To book again today would cost 120,000 more, or 295,000 points. So we're glad we could use our points when we could.

Certainly the devaluation makes Priority Club less attractive to us for the future. For my wife my guess is that she'll keep her Hilton Diamond status, earn her Marriott Megabonuses and switch some stays to Club Carlson. Sort of leaves Priority Club the odd one out.

Holiday Inn Resort Maldives up to 35000 points.

It was only 15000 when I went last year! An increase of 20000 points.

I accept this was exceptional value and went up to 25000 last year but still such a massive increase in a short space of time.

I was going to book HIX HK Soho this morning at 15000 points but held off as I wanted to go through quidco when I got home.

It has gone up to 20000 with the option of 20,000 Points 15000 Points + $40.00 USD.

I will ring up the reservation centre to get the old price but still I feel sorry for the people who dont know that this is an option.

I have not had any communication other than through FT. Poor show IHG!

I stay at this property frequently and like the hotel, but that 45k is terrible value.

Every hotel where I've redeemed in the last couple of years has gone up in value by at least 5k, some 10k.

One I didn't redeem at but find amusing is that the Hotel Indigo in Asheville SC is at 45k/night.

Since most of my redemptions had been for 15k instead of $119/night, and now those are 20k and 25k... my value is now dropped to the point where buying points via cash & points is no longer a viable option.
