What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes, with a couple caveats

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked suite with two double beds. Received the same, but on the 8th floor ("Executive floor"), which has different toiletries and a single bathrobe. Got a small basket including three bottles of water, some snacks, and a couple of discounted spa treatments.

- How are the rooms?

Now that the renovations have been completed, it looks pretty decent. It's not completely polished, and the suites are pretty small, but they're certainly an acceptable size and they look pretty nice. Two HDTVs per suite, but no HD programming. Microwave, fridge, and sink in parlor room, along with a sofa bed. Rooms are along the outside of the structure, with the interior housing a gym/fitness center, a restaurant, etc.

How is the exec. lounge?

N/A

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Free wireless, simple to set up and pretty strong. Free business center and free parking.

Bad: Small bathroom, one of the TVs didn't work (had to request twice). Iron deposited rust on my mom's sari, which didn't go over well. One of the four elevators didn't work.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Given the cost ($100 a night) and location (pretty convenient to Sugar Land and some of the Southwest suburbs, along with less than a 30 minute drive to Hobby Airport), it's a good value, especially when traveling with my family. I'll probably return there if I go back to Southwest Houston.

What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a standard room, received a "bavarian room with wooden four-poster bed, wooden walls and tiled stove" on the highest (6th) floor. Got a small basket including two bottles of water, some snacks (four muesli bars) and two small bottles of sparkling wine. ^ Never had such extras as a "normal" platinum member. Nice!

How are the rooms?

I was really surprised about the traditional room because the website only shows the modern and new renovated rooms. The room was especially distinguished by their original Bavarian style. I liked it!

How is the exec. lounge?

N/A

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Nice upgrade and extras. Good traditional restaurant: "Ludwig Stüberl". Bavarian food and Munich beer in a real Bavarian atmosphere! Free internet in the lobby.

Bad: Non-qualifying stay with 2-4-1 rate, no PC points.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Really good with 2-4-1 rate (€ 39,50/night), with PC points it would be fantastic! And yes, I would return.

Submit a point adjustment request. You may need to call/e-mail as well. You should get credit for one night.

Update: HI Leiden, NL

I just returned this night from another stay in this hotel and wanted to provide a quick update:

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
  • A very nice dinner buffet (changing between 'international', 'Italian' and 'family') for 29 EUR/person - every evening.
  • At every check-in, I got a drinks voucher for one free drink.

Bad: This was now the second stay this year, that the aircon was set to 5°C each day when I returned in the evening. I complained in January when it occurred first and twice during this 3-night stay. Each time the reception staff seemed surprised and 'has not heard of this problem before'. This is completely unacceptable in my view.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
This time, I only paid 90 EUR/night because I booked early.

I had a chat one morning with the waitress who mentioned that this hotel has a very attractive weekend rate of 59 EUR/room (for 2 people), including breakfast buffet (which alone would be close to 40 EUR for 2 people). This can only be booked via the internet.

What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Not really

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a standard room, received a standard room.
The room and the whole hotel is completely sixties-standard and I guess, the only thing renewed within the last decades were the remote controll battatries. Absolutely not my style.
Status recognition was ZERO.

How are the rooms?

Old, boring, in desperate need of refurbishing.
I really was surprised, that the old-fashioned TV was color.
Ok for one night, but I really would get depressive, if I had to stay longer-

How is the exec. lounge?

Dream on

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Room was clean, free parking in front of hotel, my stay lasted just 10 hours

Bad: Hotel and rooms in bad shape, no status recognition (I didn´t pushed it uppon check-in though)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Paid 90 EUR (flex.rate without breakfast).
It was not worth the price

What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum Royal Ambassador

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked a standard room, received a standard room.
As most HIX, there is absolutely no difference between the rooms, so you don´t get the envious feeling of not receiving the highest upgrade possible. Status recognition: very warm wellcome + voucher for free alc.free drink at the bar.

How are the rooms?

Small but nice. Unexciting, but very ok for staying a night.

How is the exec. lounge?

None

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Friendly staff, better breakfast choice than in standard HIX (i.g. chocolate croissants, fresh fruit...), beside the parking lot for charge (8 EUR) a lot of free parking spots in front of the hotel.

Bad: nothing

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Fair:
Paid 79 EUR (flex.rate).
Ridicullious high prices at exhibition time.

Candlewood Suites BWI

What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?

Partial yes.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

I booked a standard suite. I was upgraded to a bedroom suite upon check-in.

How are the rooms?

My room was spacious with a kitchen, sofa bed, leather recliner, and a desk.
The room was well kept and surprisingly clean. I was given 2 bags with 2 small bottles of water and fruit bars, and one free coupon for can of soda.

How is the exec. lounge?

N/A

What was good and what was bad?

Candlewood Suite did not have a king size bed. Because I took my wife and son with me, I ended up sleeping on the sofa. I haven't slept on a sofa bed for at least a decade and it's not very comfortable. The temperture control in the room is little outdated and kicks in cold or warm air depending on cycle and was very noisy.

Good: Cleann room, Free wireless, work-out center, free laundry, and free parking.

Bad: TV connection was iffy and times.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Worth the money if you are staying alone. DO NOT STAY IF FOR FAMILY TRIP.

No

Booked a Standard Room and got a Standard Room, no upgrade. Low floor (3rd).

How are the rooms?

Small, but clean.

How is the exec. lounge?

Wasn't allowed to go.

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Nice breakfast.

Bad: No upgrade, nothing extra for elite members. There's a lot of traffic noise, even on a Sunday.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

For 180 euro and no upgrade or extra stuff for Elite members, no way I would return.

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked and received top category suite.

How are the rooms?

Excellent two-level suite in base of former airport control tower. Welcome gift of fruit plate and soft drinks with a nice handwritten note from guest services.

How is the exec. lounge?

Ok. Small, but snack selection was above-average. Unusually, other than the first complimentary glass of wine, alcoholic drinks are chargable in this lounge. Soft drinks are free.

What was good and what was bad?

Good: Hotel is lovely, art-deco throughout, room was excellent.

Bad: Nothing really.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Excellent value for 5000 PC points (Pointsbreak)

Did you try the Crowne Plaza while you were in Amsterdam? From what you say the CP sounds to be better value than the HI, at least for reward points.

Which HI? De Boelelaan? I have gotten good Platinum treatment there. On cheaper rates too. Maybe you had a bad desk agent?

It is right next to a major freeway, so you should ask for a room on the other side if the noise bothers you.
