Win 1 Million Points!

I just receved an email from PC titled "Win 1 Million Points!" Basically it is like a raffle where you use PC points to buy chances to win. It takes 400 points for each entry to win the 1M points, and there are 3 other categories which are 50 points to win a $250 Best Buy gift card, 150 points to win 50k airline miles and 250 points to win 100k miles. The T&Cs say the there will be one winner per category.

I don't think that I will be participating as it seem like just throwing away points for a remote chance to win. What does everybody else think about this and did you also receive the email?

Snap. A good way to reduce the book value of the liability of the points, by getting a load of people to reduce thier point balances.

You can only enter by post for free (and would need to pay for postage) - entering online requires use of points.

I was wondering about what they would do to the entries submitted physicallly.

Would they key them into a system together with the online ones and then choose the winners for each category?

Sounds like a lot of work.
Are there any checks in place for such sweepstakes that ensure physical entries are really going to be entered or is it some gimmick to get people to burn points and at the same time they are required to have this manual entry section to ensure they comply some sweepstake regulation of "no purchase necessary"?
