Using PC visa to buy points / ambassador status
 

Dear FT,

I was wondering if I would get the 5x points for using the PC select visa card to buy points on the PC website, and to purchase ambassador status?

I understand I would get 5x points for spending at the IC chain hotels, but the terms and conditions don't seem to specify whether other sales on the PC website give the same bonus.

Interesting question. I have the UK equivalent card (though only gives 4x points on IHG group spend) and on last couple of statements where I've bought points on the card for points and cash nights I didn't get 4x, so they weren't counted as an IHG hotel spend, though I think they should be.

Having said that, the administration of the UK card is very bad, I've got several unresolved disputes over correct calculation of points, and in those instances (ie $60 each) it wasn't worth the grief of querying.

Thanks for the info. I'm actually not surprised that it doesn't count to be honest, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't losing out on the extra points.

1x PC points for $1 purchase is not very good value unfortunately :(. Much better putting it on SPG or 2.5x avios (current bonus)
