Agree, but why make a former Holiday Inn property that is unrenovated (except Club Lounge) and lower in daily room rates more expensive to redeem than IC HKG. As you said, maybe decision related to occupancy levels. Still looks insane

It is indeed. Choice has similarly bizarre point levels--no rhyme or reason at times.

A few more I checked in SE Asia:

- IC Hua Hin stayed at 30K (pleasantly surprised)
- IC Koh Samui stayed at 30K (pleasantly surprised)
- HI Cha Am (Regent Beach) is now 15K but I'm not sure when it changed (I stayed there for 10K about 1.5 years ago)
- HI Manila Galleria went from 15K to 20K

KL & Jakarta all the same than before.

Devaluation is expected. But 25% increase (from 40k to 50k) is really too much.

I bet you anything this is due to some data entry clerk's lack of geographical knowledge. Many people think "Tahiti" means the whole country when it's actually just ONE island in French Polynesia. So the list that went out probably said something like put Tahiti down to 30k and the clerk interpreted it as ALL the ICs in "Tahiti". No way are the 2 in BOB staying that rate so book fast!

I hope at least the Tahiti one stays down for a few years, I'll need it before and after a trip to the Marquesas in 2015!

But I don't object to the 25% DECREASE in points for the French Polynesia properties.

Sucks. CP Times Square stayed the same tho @ 25k. I was considering the candlewood or staybridge for their great redemptions (over 3/c a point they became valued at)

You value the Candlewood TS at $450 and the Staybridge at $600?

Nights I was quoting the Staybridge was over $380 and the Candlewood was...well I forgot, I just call being able to value my points @ over 2.5c and was very happy with that.

Here is the math

$380 Staybridge - $60 cash + 10k points.

320/10000 = 3.2c/point

I think the Candlewood was like $240 and I figured $60 cash + 5k points, so 180/5000 (or 3.6)

Okay...I value my points differently, but a 5K increase per night for these properties still leaves a good value.

I just called in to book the Candlewood Times Square at the old rate -- was initially was offered the new rate and had to specify that I wanted the new rate and be transferred to PC before I got it. So I would say that the claim that they would "automatically" give the old rate doesn't seem to be true, but it wasn't too much of a hassle.

IC HKG decor is about 10-15 years older than at the Grand Stanford. It should have been torn down at least before millennium celebrations.

But in fairness, they were asking 25K points for it prior to last year. It was lowered during that "silent" re-adjustment of some hotels last year. But it was good while it lasted, especially the 6 nights I stayed there in the summer at the Pointsbreaks rate. However, 20K isn't that bad.
