It actually comes $51.02 because there's tax on it. I, too, am in the camp that thinks it's crazy annoying. That was until I booked some points/free night stays at the Kimpton Seafire. Now that one is way over the top, especially when the reservation confirmation specifically states no additional charges/fees on your "free" night.

I let my Ambassador lapse this year due to some different stay patterns so am back to lowly Platinum.
Extending a work trip with 2 nights @ Palazzo for Fri/Sat with my wife. I am generally OK with the standard suites @ Palazzo, so not concerned about an upgrade, but with a late flight Sunday, Late Checkout is a huge plus.
Anyone recently successful getting late checkout as a non-AMB Plat?
Anyone use the $20 trick at check-IN for a late checkout?
I doubt I will use the free AMB night in the coming year so the re-up fee for AMB seems like a waste of money at this time.

Underwhelmed This Trip
I just stayed a few days ago . Can't help you with the possibility of a late checkout other than to say they typically are real sticklers on doing things by the rules. As a Spire Ambassador they offered 4 p.m. to me but we left at 1 p.m. I had actually booked a room at the Venetian. Upon arrival front desk mentioned pool construction and noise, so suggested a room at Palazzo instead. Fine, both hotels are nearly the same IMO. Standard suites are all I need as well--simply wanted a view not of the mountains and parking garage like last time. Clerk repeated many times about finding a 1 tier upgrade for me. Based on the very low rate, I assume occupancy was low.
Our assigned Palazzo room had a view of the Venetian pool construction site, rooftop with HVAC units a few floors below, and the McCarren airstrip. Too much of a hassle to treek back to front desk, stand in line, and ask for something better. Also, housekeeping cleanliness issues with the shower. The standard suite itself was, as always, very nice. Just be aware everyone from both hotels will be using the Palazzo pools. No mention of Venetian pools being closed on their website, booking confirmation, or email offering an upgrade for extra $. Based on the excellent view of the work in progress on the Venetian pools from our room, it looks like a major project.
I hear you on the Ambassador renewal, but every year I end up going for it at the last minute.

Is it still 2k points? Have a 5 night stay in Vegas coming up. Seems silly to stay at this place when I can stock up on Hyatt points almost anywhere else on the strip.
Although I do have a Siena upgrade cert burning a hole in my pocket thanks to pool and noise problems mentioned above

Have a 5 night stay coming up in August. Booked directly with Palazzo as on IHG there seemed to be a greater deposit requirement and unclear contradictory wording on the resort fee.
The rate I secured is around $1400 total for the 5 nights (8/1 to 8/6) for a strip view suite, over a weekend, including resort fee and tax. It is significantly more expensive than some MGM suite properties off strip (e.g. MGM Signature) but less than what I can find in the other major casinos and hotels on the strip for an equivalent spec room. How does this rate stack up at this time of year?
I emailed the Palazzo to add my IHG number to the booking, which they have done. Although the reservation does not show up on IHG.com.
I have just status matched to Spire Elite so want to make sure this is all in order. Will likely try the cash trick on check in for good measure to maximize chances of an upgrade.
Have I missed any steps on the loyalty side?

This property is significantly better than the Signature, although not strictly a suite in the same way. Signature are true suites, with kitchens as theyre designed for longer stays. Palazzo is one (very) large room, with a bathroom, bedroom area then you step down into the living room area. There is no fridge, coffee machine, microwave etc.
comparable MGM properties quality wise would be Aria, Bellagio or Delano.
Im not sure what prices are like in August but the rate sounds decent considering that includes resort fee, taxes and a weekend.
Ive only ever booked via IHG, but as long as they have your number on file it should be fine. Youre unlikely to get a great upgrade unless theyre full. Ive stayed twice as spire, the first time we got upgraded to a larger room with wet bar and strip view from the standards room because they were full for a conference. It was brand new as had just been refurbished - we were also offered a terrace room but they were not yet refurbished. Last time we just got upgraded from a non strip view to strip view. Its an IC property, so unless youre IC Ambassador the upgrades can be hit and miss.

Remember Palazzo/Venetian only earn a flat 2000 IHG points no matter how many nights you book and no matter how much you spend on the room rate. In the past I’ve booked on Palazzo and/or Venetian sites rather than IHG. Those nights were non qualifying, including no 2000 points. I did it because the rate was much lower than the rate on IHG, so it wasn’t worth it to me to spend more money.
As an Ambassador I’ve received an upgrade to a view of the pools under heavy construction with rooftops and HVAC units. I’ve also received upgrades to the huge 1 bedroom suites when they don’t have anything lesser available to upgrade one level. It all depends on ?, you never know. Honestly all the rooms are nice, Likely the best standard rooms of any IC.
