Boat transfer from the Airport is not mandatory despite what any hotel emails might imply to the contrary. It's possible to take the free Air Tahiti shuttle to Vaitape (15 minutes), followed by a taxi to the IC Le Moana for 2000XPF (15 minutes), then the IC's shuttle between Le Moana and Thalasso for 3390 XPF per person one way (updated Dec 2019) (15 minutes). If all transfers go smoothly, the journey could be as short as an hour, or longer than two hours if you're unlucky.

Also, there have been reports of being emailed by the resort directly with offers to 'guarantee' your reward nights to OWB for an additional charge. I haven't received anything from the resort, but since my stay is 3 months out, it may be a little early. Any idea on when I can expect something? I'm thinking I may just take my chances as a platinum ambassador, but I'm still curious.
They usually merge on arrival... Read up re upgrade... Most seem to think it is fairly unusual if you don't get upgraded given the ratio of room types available at this property.

Can I get people's opinion on whether i will get a upgrade to OWB if I do award stay in middle of March as an ambassador. If I don't get upgraded, do you think it is possible to pay when I check in for one.

that is what i was thinking. i heard they only have 3 of those coral suites, so i figure the chances that i get upgraded could be pretty good since i am going on shoulder season too.

Mandatory boat transfer

We are heading here for 5 nights for our anniversary with a coral suite award in june. The award states that we must pay a pretty heft fee for each of us to and from the airport. Has anyone been able to find alternate means of transportation and not pay the mandatory fee to the hotel?

Thanks!

LOL... It's the only way to get to any hotel in BB.. Each hotel has it's own boat for transfers... the only other way would be to pack a kayak on the plane or swim.... and don't fear, it's not too expensive compared to basic things like food and drink...

that's what we'll do!! Kayak! Hehehe! I guess I should have known better, but if anyone would be able to do it differently it would definitely be a flyer talker!

Any boat ride in Bora Bora will cost an arm and a leg. Some resorts have a complimentary boat shuttle to the main island 2-3x/day but all resorts charge for the roundtrip from/to the airport.

i was here in april. perhaps there is a public boat you can get to vaitape then the shuttle bus to IC Moana and then boat between Moana and Thalasso . But honestly if it exists it is not worth it. just get the boat between airport and IC Thalasso!

Thalasso and Moana have a complimentary shuttle boat between them running about 8 times a day

enjoy . it was amazing !

Anyone have any thoughts on the likelihood of a cancellation at this resort? I have a reservation for 6 nights coming up next month with 2 nights BOGO and 4 nights on points. Not wanting to take the chance of getting stuck in a Coral Suite, I agreed to pay addition for the guaranteed upgrade to an OWB, but to my shock, received an email that there was no upgrades available as they are all booked!!

Yes, the resort is showing as full online for some of the days of my reward booking. Looks like a cancellation would be my best bet, but I'm assuming that cancellation rates are fairly low for a property such as this.

Sadly, looks as though I may be adding some reviews of the Garden Coral Suites to this thread in the near future if this is the case...

I'm an Ambassador, so I hope there is an upgrade at least for my BOGO. I'm thinking I'll find out about a week out from my reservation on that one. And yes...totally bummed out about the reward night booking right now.

I thought upgrade for the BOGO nights as an AMB is guaranteed.. is there a 'maybe' on that one?
