Very good. I'd be interested if the Ambassador suite has been renovated. It's been several years since I had that upgrade.

Just arrived

We just checked into our premium room king bed number 2506
I believe it to be more like a junior suite in size and really really lovely.

our bags were waiting and with a display of fresh strawberries, a cube of cookies, and both sparkling and still water.

the afternoon tea in the club is really good and with the famous free flowing champagne.

we are tired as we been up since 3am so might also try the lounge tonight.

Thumbs up

First impressions after a cramped and full Thalys train and balmy weather Paris:

The hotel:
- friendly main reception staff in english AND French
- fresh lighter feeling of corridors, better signage
- wintergarden and bar closed but makes now for a pleasent and bigger lobby to sit in and people watch
- concierge has matches for the fumr crowd

the Club classic room has a thight feel to it
- walk in closet space spacious enough for 2
- KING bed fills the room
- there is a desk+chair + seat+sidetable
- minibar (on sensor) empty
- shower/bath combo
- no hyginestick at toilet
- atrium view
- only kettle, no coffeemachine
- byredo big flasks as amenity
- fully renovated and looks good
- windows can fully open for fresh air!

Ambassador suite is amazing
- two door / two entrances = handy to seperate business of pleasure (or having crumpet over)
- airy living room placement of furniture and comfy sofa
- two toilets, both with hygienestick
- has a connecting door to combine with another ambassador suite
- has a kettle and Nespresso pads coffeemachine
- empty minibar on sensor
- byredo big flask as amenity
- windows can fully open for fresh air!
- airconditioning can cope two rooms
- lots of USB and european poweroutlets
- seperate freestanding bathtub and shower
- fully renovated and black/silver metallic theme
- view on rue Capucines / rue Scribe junction

Gym
- has all the basics + heavy weight dumbells
- has freshing water/drinks
- has windows that open to courtyard for fresh air!

Club Lounge
- Mr Gilles is still as excellent host as before Welcome back hospitality!
- Lounge not crowed, so enough seating for relaxation and dining
- fully renovated and an attractive space
- 3 drinks stations / coffeemachines across the lounge
- tried out lounge HappyHour/Hors d'ouevres before shabbat = food was fresh and often replenished
- presented were oysters, escargot, foie gras, club sandwich, lox and more
- champers Castelnau, 2 reds, 2 whites, 2 ross
- you could make a mini meal to tide you over till breakfast
- tea by Dammam Frres
- can make extra keys in lounge
- they have Haribo !
- worth the effort and money = satisfying for Royal Ambassadors

Caf de la Paix dinner
- friendly server in French
- twice being offered bread
- starter/main portions seemed bigger then i remembered
- a place to see and be seen, a lot of birds of a different feather!

* Royal Ambassador recognition:
- champers, juices, macarons, fruit, chocolates
- upgrade (ambassador suite is normally excluded from RA upgrade chain)
- recognised as such by staff from reception, lounge and Caf de la Paix (spacious booth)
- lots of large mineral water bottles
- feels like they go the extra mile and appreciate you as a return guest

-> only niggle is the empty minibar but the offer at the Club Lounge more then makes up for it

VERDICT = i am a satisfied customer

M. Gilles St. Laurent? Yes, he's very nice. I saw on the Club paper that the complimentary laundry is now missing!

I don't believe there was every complimentary laundry at this hotel for Club guests.

With the new lounge requiring a room keycard for entrance, are people still checking in at the lounge? Is it appropriate to give the door a couple of knocks or is there another way to enter?

😱

A key is indeed required, and staff at the entrance checks names and room number of guests they dont know.

Thanks - I meant how do you enter to check in if you dont yet have a key. Or is it instead better to just check in at the front desk now?

Either you check-in at main lobby and get a key, or ring the bell at the lounge and staff welcomes you at the desk.

Entry desk is behind the window

The desk is right by the entry door. So you can even knock and they will come open the door.

Staying here after almost 10 years when i was a RA (Ambassador now). What type of upgrade can I expect?

Also do I get club access? If not what is the typical upsell to upgrade .

Youll get a one catgory upgrade as an Ambassador. And there are many categories these days. No free club.

Email the hotel in advance about club access - last I remember it was 120 to 150 a night.

Club now has quality snacks, nibbles, cheese in the evening but not really enough to make an evening meal as it used to be in the old lounge. Also drinks including alcohol most of the day. Its a fresh and stylish area and quite different from the club youll remember from 10 years ago.

And beware that an outside view room to an Opera view room is considered an upgrade. The Opera is stunning at night but the musicians performing to a singing and dancing crowd on the steps can still be quite loud on Spring and Summer evenings.

Here some pictures of our Easter stay in April (4 nights reward). Paid upgrade to Club lounge €150 per day (night) was worth it. Lounge as described by @DonPedro. Personal service and food and drink availability excellent even during times of high occupancy such as breakfast. Real luxury experience.
Room at Capucines wing second floor view to court. Small room, but fully equipped and renovated. Bathtub with shower. Probably not an upgrade but the hotel was full as we heard from discussions of Front Desk staff with other guests. For us not worth to complain, we do not stay in the room when in Paris except at night time or for a short rest and know the views from rooms in all wings from past stays. Welcome present a full bottle of Castelnau Champagne (first time I got a full bottle of Champagne as Amb at LG, we got red wine in the past) and Petits Sables shortbreads in metal box. Bar and Le Verriere restaurant closed, so no coupon for drinks this time. Valet car parking 40 Euros per night. Staff attentive. Check-in professional and polite. Overall I would describe the stay as luxury experience. Le Grand is our IHG choice in Paris. Kimpton opposite of LG may be a good choice for people who like luxury boutique hotels, maybe we try one time.
