When does qualifying nights reset to zero?
My RA just got renewed on Nov 1, 2008. Current RA card states expiry Jan 2009 and new RA card will expire on Jan 31, 2010.
I am planning a holiday trip end Jan or early Feb where I will be staying in a few ICs and CPs. My question is when will my stays start counting towards my 2009 year? Will it be Jan 2009 or Feb 2009? I tried calling the RA service center, but I don't think the guy that helped me understood my question. He just kept saying that I am in the top 1% and do not have to worry  |

Of course, could be judged pro-rata on Jan-September. Or averaged. Or eye-balled subjectively. |

For RA, the "year" starts on your anniversary month of when you signed up to be an Ambassador (not when you received RA status) and runs 12 months. For PC, the "year" is based on a calendar year. In your case, since January is the month noted on your account, both "years" run concurrently.
If you received an RA referral cert and used it to upgrade your status, the requalification (top 1%) will be based on a pro-rata calculation using the number of stays during your RA membership period. So if you had 15 stays between getting RA and the end of your membership year, and you were an RA for 3 months, it would be assumed you'd keep that pace can thus have 60 nights and likely be renewed as an RA. You could also use a full 12-month period during which you'd achieved between 50 and 60 nights, which is our assumed translation of "top 1%". I don't believe the year resets from your sign-up to the month you were upgraded, thus I disagree with IAN-UK. So let the debate begin! |
Just a guess : the official rule is that by the end of your Ambassador year, i.e. January 31st, your stay pattern over the previous 12 months meets the 1% criterion. Nevertheless, it would seem an advance check is done around two and a half-months prior to the expiry date (that's when early renewal or demotion letters are sent out). It may be possible that for this advance check, the previous 12 months count, not only the previous 9,5 months of the current Ambassador year.
