Now you modified the wiki and changed the opening date of HIX Regensburg from Winter 2017 to Winter 2018. However, there is no HIX in Regensburg which will open during Winter 2018.

I find this very immature.

For the record, once again, I did not remove any entry I was unable to find info about. I specifically asked the forum for new info. I said I would consider removing them if no new info turns up.

I do believe that would be reasonable considering the wiki was very poorly maintained. Before my dozens of updates, there were many properties listed with opening dates of 2016 and such (there might still be a few but sustantially fewer). Nobody had taken the time to check what happened to those properties. I did check and made a lot of changes--all based on publicly-available information.

It is my view that a list becomes less useful if it contains too many errors and too much noise. You can make the error of leaving incorrect information in the wiki (a so-called type II error). You can also make the error of removing correct information (a so-called type I error).

In practice, you can't get both the probability of a type I error as well as the one of a type II error down to zero. To give an analogy: To never send someone innocent to jail (= to never make a type I error), you have to acquit everybody. To never acquit somebody who is guilty (= to never make a type II error), you have to send everybody to jail.

To me, it seems you are a bit ignorant of the fact that for a wiki, you have to strike a balance between type I and type II error. You seem to argue that one should keep info in the wiki unless one is very, very, very certain the info is wrong or outdated. That's fair enough, but that might mean the wiki contains a good bit of incorrect, outdated, or irrelevant information.

I would suggest using the date format September 14, 2018. I actually changed a bunch of dates given in a format like 10-02-18 in the wiki to the longer format. The rationale is that 10-02-18 might be read as February 10, 2018, by Europeans but as October 2, 2018, by people from some other countries (e.g., Americans).

I am but suprised that are exactly accusing me of entering false information to the wiki I have already mentioned where I find the information of hotel updates or openings. That you are not able to find that online, is your problem. Fact is though that anouncements in press or online magazines always mention an approx. opening date which might change due to construction or any other reason. IHG site often don't mention these opening unless it it is an important hotel location..

And regarding "consider removing them" , who do you think you are , demanding new info or otherwise you remove the hotel from the hotel list? It is the way that you are wriiting that I find extremely anoying.

You are also messing up the uniformity by introducing "OPEN - >" and sometimes "Open - >" in front of the recent hotels openings I found and marked in the wiki.
All this is destructive, as it destroys uniformity. It is also in violation of the formatting guidelines provided at the start of the wiki which declares to format recently open hotels as "Name Hotel in red -> Recently open", the format I had adopted across the wiki.

I explained my reasoning for this in #1639 . However, I get the impression you don't respond to reason.

I will leave further wiki changes to others. Ultimately, despite the arguments, I find the wiki is in a better state now than before I started cleaning up and updating info about a week ago. Let's hope it stays that way!

On one hand it's nice to see a new Strasbourg HI since we lost the very nice HI Strasbourg-llkirch. But this is a weird location. The airport and Europa Park are to the south. And even though there is a newish HIX by llkirch, a full service HI would be better than one to the north. Am I missing something?

First of all and to everybody working on the WiKi and editing / adding it, thank you very much for your efforts.

Secondly, I fully understand, that not everybody is pleased with how dates and entries are done. There are different possibilities alone in regard to a data. Given, that we have different cultures on board, a full written month has benfits over a 2018-09-11 which could be understood as November 09, 2018 and also September 11, 2018. A September 11 or September 2018 leads less room for interpretation. But this is only my person point of view. In anyway, I think we should stick with the format used in the WiKi from the beginning, also you might not fully agree with it. In so far, the one who created the Wiki has set the format. I agree that a stringent approach would be helpful. But a many things in life, nothing is perfect and the life (and this Wiki) is a compromise in many ways.

I also agree, that entries should not be deleted because there are not information available. If you do not find infoirmation anymore, I suggest to add a remark like (information went missing, please check) and I am sure someone will find something. For example, I learnt some time ago that a couple of project went missing from an official page but were still available in Chinese language (which I do not understand). So in this kind a fellow flyertalker updated me in this regard.

We should use the advantage of flyertalk and the many nationalities available, that we could search in our native languages and this leads to results in our native language which we could post and link (like updates in local newspapers).

In so far and as a moderator I would like to thank arnoIC for his work and also all of you for your contribution to this thread and also in regard to the discussion how the WiKi should be done.
