+Well-appointed suite with wet bar, sink, fridge, microwave, dinner table for two, large coffee table, comfortable sofa, two matching evening armchairs, a snazzy large two-sided fireplace in between the living room and bedroom area, clever lighting, chic lamps

+Modern furniture with bright, inspiring artwork
+Super-comfortable bed & pillows
+Wall-mounted heating control worked great in frigid temperatures

What is your IHG Rewards Club status?
Platinum Amb

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes - very much so

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked King Deluxe - received same (although I did receive a call after checking in inviting me to the Club Lounge at 6:30pm which unfortunately I was unable to use)

How are the rooms?
Beautifully finished and a pretty good size. Large amount of cupboard space and even larger bathroom with separate shower, bath and 2 sinks. Not much of a view

What was your welcome gift?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Good
- Very helpful staff (had no milk to go with the tea making facilities and was handed about 10 mini pots of milk)
- Beautiful rooms
- Great breakfast in the restaurant overlooking the river and heliport
Bad
- Location may be a problem for many (but that explains the price-point; this hotel would be 2 or 3 times more expensive if more central). The number 44 bus (about 2 minute walk away) gets you to Victoria in about 20 mins so it depends on how convenient you want to be. Clapham Junction station is about 15 mins walk. There's a nice walk along the river which offers a few other dining options but mainly apartments

Value for Money/Points? Would you return?
Great deal on Opening Offer including breakfast. I'd probably pay a few more pounds to be more central but if I needed to be in the area or central prices were ridiculous, I'd absolutely return again

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?
Very Delighted

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked:- Cheapest room using points (1 KING DELUXE NON SMOKING)
Received:- TRIPLE UPGRADES to 1 KING BED EXECUTIVE SUITE

How are the rooms?
- The Executive Suite is very spacious; 54 sqm.
- The view from the living room is very beautiful; especially the windows are very large.
- For those who aviation lovers; you could enjoy planes approaching Jeddah Intl Airport from your room; remarkably beautiful!
- The hotel is just opened for two months; definitely clean and new. ^^

What was your welcome gift?
- A HUGE Welcome fruit platter
- some Arabian dessert (Not desert; for sure )
- Mineral Waters

What was good and what was bad?
Good
- TRIPLE UPGRADES on award stay
- Very new property
- Close to the airport; and closer to Madinah. Very good for those who traveling for Umra.
- Polite staffs
- Very good breakfast; both in terms of quality and quantity. I should pay 105 SAR/person for the breakfast but the restaurant staffs exempted the breakfast charge for three of us. ^^^^
- Use the hotel car with driver for traveling around Jeddah (100 SAR/hour = 26 USD/hour) and also for Jeddah to Madinah (600 SAR for one-way); bit more expensive than using taxi but since the hotel has go out of way (triple upgrades; exempted breakfast charges) so I wouldn't mind paying more for other charges. The drivers are very careful and courteous. ^

Bad
Are you kidding? After receiving triple room upgrades & free breakfast ?? nothing is bad for sure.

Value for Money/Points? Would you return?
20,000 pts for 850 SAR (225 USD) room definitely good value. Sure!

Not sure if there is one.

What was good and what was bad?
+ Upgrade without asking
+ Welcome gift (water and snacks)
+ Room in good condition
+ Free buses to Terminal 1/2/3

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value. I chose this hotel as it seems quite close to the airport, however it turns out you still need a taxi/bus to get there. Next time I will probably stay at the CP or Hiltons for better experience/elite treatment.

Nothing special, but good to have a club lounge.

Good
  • Best rate

Bad

- What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
ok

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room, received deluxe

- How are the rooms?
Small. It seems that all the rooms are the same size. I think deluxe means they add robe, slippers and a coffee machine.

- How is the exec. lounge?
None! This should be an HI rather than a CP.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good
The location is very good. Short walk to the city center or the shopping mall in the other direction.
Still has that new hotel smell. Everything was in good condition.

Bad
No club, no suite upgrade.
As a couple, was offered only a single drink at the bar, so I chose the 600 points instead.
Parking costs €15, but it is a busy area and spots on the street are rare.

- Value for € or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
I probably would choose an Accor property instead in this town.

Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes, very much.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard room, received large jacuzzi suite. I come here almost every year going back to when this was a CP, and I always get this suite.

- How are the rooms?
All renovated with nice new furniture. Lots of space and a sofa bed to go with the King bed. Big walk in closet.

- How is the exec. lounge?
None.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good
You can book 4 to a room which is what I did. And all four of us could use the free drink coupon they offered.
I chose a Torres Brandy and the bartender nearly filled the large Brandy glass! I was definitely feeling it that night.
Great central location, just minutes to the gondola which takes you to the slopes.
70 bucks for a suite in the middle of ski season? Are you kidding me? That's a deal.

Bad
Nothing.

- Value for € or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes, one of the great value HI's in Europe.

HIX Marseille Airport

- What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked two 1 bedroom suites on pointbreaks.

- How are the rooms?
It's not often I get a suite at an HIX. This one is nice and large with a kitchenette. Large fridge, sink and microwave. The living room has a sofa bed and its own TV. Just a queen bed in the bedroom and the usual modern HIX bathroom.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good
Booking two suites with Pointbreaks!
Looks like they have a nice pool for the summertime. Of course its closed now.

Bad
Not much in this area other than airport hotels. I had to drive a ways to the shopping mall to find a restaurant.

- Value for € or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes if I needed this location.

Staybridge Suites San Diego - Sorrento Mesa (California, USA)

What is your Priority Club status?

Platinum

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked STUDIO SUITE 1 QUEEN NONSMOKING - no upgrade offered and I didn't ask (late night arrival)
Received 500 point "welcome bonus" without asking

How are the rooms?
Good... a little bit of wear in the kitchen but everything functional. The floor under the HVAC unit was wet; not sure what was going on there before I arrived but since it was a nice evening I opened the window and let nature take care of the climate

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A... the breakfast area had some long, high tables with plug-in displays so that you could have business meetings at breakfast. Neat little touch.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:

- Quiet office park setting
- Strip mall next door had a ton of ethnic food outlets
- Lots of brightly-lit parking
- Business center "nook" next to the breakfast area was quiet enough to take a few calls in the afternoon after check-out
- All staff friendly/competent

Bad:
- Location is not really close to San Diego downtown and traffic can be ridiculous (almost an hour to get to the airport). If you have business in the nearby office parks it's a good choice, otherwise not great for tourism
- Really difficult to figure out exactly how to get in and out of the hotel parking... apparently the only way to get out is to drive around the side of the hotel on a local street and make a U-turn back around... and Google Maps directions will tell you to use a one-way alley between a car wash and a gas station to get IN to the parking

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
If I needed to be right in that area for business, sure.

Which room did you book ...
Standard

and which upgrade did you receive?
Executive on the highest floor

How are the rooms?
Nice and big enough, very bright and better than average HI
Highest floor was all executive rooms

How is the exec. lounge?
NA. There seems to be pool outside though.

What was good and what was bad?
+ Upgrade without asking, I had to wait as I was checking-in early
+ Nice room, albeit on opposite side to town
+ Room in good condition, even if bit dusty as they must have cleaned it in hurry for me
+ Very good house red wine and dirt cheap in their bar. I seldom buy anything from HI restaurants, but this is Pais Vasco so I dared try.
-/+ A bit further away from old town, but actually not that much if you are OK to walk 1-2 kilometres. There as fairly good bus connection from Guggenheim museum nearby the hotel too.
- Some Asian young people were noisy at night due to them having wedding.
- Construction work was going on at rooftop very late, but it did not bother really
- WiFi doesn't work on the highest floor, the coverage is bad unless you step downstairs

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value. Nothing special here, but better than expected for a HI. I will most probably return another time.
