Error while buying points
For several months, frequently when trying to buy points through https://storefront.points.com/IHG-re...club/en-US/buy, I have been getting this error:
Error: There was a problem with your authentication information, please try again. Calling into IHG support at 1 877 660 8550 also doesn't seem to help. The representatives get the same error when trying to buy points, and also don't seem to know what is going on. Also, last time the transactions actually worked, several IHG accounts of my family members were locked for suspected fraud—and it took weeks of back-and-forth with IHG support on email to get them unlocked. Has anyone encountered this issue? And any idea how to fix? |
Still getting this same error when trying to buy points with the 100% bonus promotion. Can't seem to find any rhyme or reason around it. Worst part is that the charge is actually authorized by the card, and only cleared after several days.

Whicg browser do you use? The buying page is hosted by points.com. They have different safety measures than IHG, e.g. in regard to IP adresses, VPN. I tried around and e.g. failed to access the page while using the WiFi of an airport lounge (AA Club in Charlotte) and also using my VPN sometimes failed. I also fail if I use he VPN setting of Opera.
I also discovered some problems from countries in certain regions. You might try to contact points.com instead |
I have had the same issue with the IHG storefront
I have had the exact same issues and did all of the same procedures as listed above, and did the same with my wife’s account no luck there either
It is very frustrating because I would really like to purchase in points at the 100% bonus for a trip we’re planning. I saw a comment on Reddit. The poster stated that it could potentially be a Chase problem so they switched their form of payment to AMEX and stated that it worked so I’m gonna give that a try next and will post if it resolves the issue |

Fixed ihg points issue
Finally i fixed the issue, just email [email protected] and tell them you cannot buy and then they will reply that it is reactivated. Since buying points is not really IHG doing it, its this third party company.

Did try to buy on the 100% bonus last day, 9 October, got the same error. Credit Card then blocked, but reactivated some minutes later when I called the CC CS. Too late to buy for the promo now I guess, so next time I might email them.
Guess I have to ditch the plan to buy points. |

"Something went wrong. Please check your login information and try again." IHG representatives/employees, are you reading this? Points.com systems are over-zealous and block login for no reason, like then trying to log in at a hotel or airport lounge. Or not connecting well with Chase IHG Rewards card. This is an inconvenience and prevents IHG from doing a lot of business/points sales. |
I've giving up on IHG...will use it only as a back up. Not only could I not buy points, suddenly they did shot down my account even if I had three active booking on it, said it had been inactive for many years! I called in, they opened a new account for me, but not sure I will get any points for the bookings I made on my old account.

Did try again....saw that the 100% bonus will likely be of some value later this year.
This time, worked directly on the first attempt. Maybe they did fix the system. |
