My partner signed up for Straight to Diamond. I signed her up for Ambassador for the first time today and her Diamond expiry was instantly extended from 31/12/22 to 31/12/23 and she received an email congratulating her on achieving Diamond status.
To be honest, I think this is a win-win, as IHG will be getting more of our business in the future, including over the next few months. We’ve shifted stays this month to IHG and booked a good few nights over the next six months at Kimptons across Europe and in Australia in the recent sale.

Assuming you achieved Diamond status via the Straight to Diamond avenue, it depends whether you think that extending your status now may prevent IHG from downgrading your account.

Yes i can agree to the Kimpton sale being attractive in £ + the added flexability = winner for the winter bookings.
Thanks everyone for the recent datapoints that the diamond+amb still seems to work.
(it could be the safest bet to safeguard those newly minted Diamonds)

Ask and thou shall find:
https://www.headforpoints.com/2022/0...al-ambassador/
https://frequentmiler.com/earn-20000...ying-2-nights/
https://onemileatatime.com/deals/int...ollment-offer/
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/inte...mation-33.html
without Star Trek technobabble:
1) so gain 20.000 points instantly signup/renew AMB
(+extend diamond till 2023 - locking in recent sign up Diamond status)
2) get 20.000 points upon staying 2 nights
it actually costs $200 or 40.000 pts. To renew/get AMB = pays back investment with promo 20K offer
Math calculates as most favourably and you get excellent AMB bennies
(+now also free Diamond brekkies / status) till 2023 thanks to great October signup craze)
it is a totally underrated and underestimated secret on most blogs and selfproclaimed travelgurus/influencers because:
- the steer is towards globalists/lifetine - pushing Hyatt business credit cards for double nights etc.
- the steer is towards diamond/lifetime - pushing Hilton Aspire credit card etc.
- the steer is towards platinum/titanium/lifetime - pushing Marriot creditcards for extra qualification nights etc.
* all their posts directing towards blog "best public offer available" signups and referral commission under the disguise of "Aspirational" points hotels......
* plus add in the pushy convertible US credit card reward points sales and virtuoso/amex f&h / preferred partner bookings commission / hotel points buying promo embedded referral links......
Hence with IHG their only creditcard gives out platinum only.....
AMB is extra separate personal effort to be taken at investment cost
Diamond only after $45.000 creditcard spent or now easy thanks to the great October sign up craze
= less interest / promotion of bloggers/influencers because there is less commission or slice of $ pie for them
no inferiority complex for me,
as Bloggers seems to taunt you with glamour reviews of Park Hyatt / St.Regis / Edition, Four Seasons
i'd rather prefer this cost effective setup,
without multiple creditcard application hooplas, signups, annual fees,
with access to a good global footprint of hotels of places i need to visit
of all affordable $ price ranges and all classes to suit my needs,
where bennies seem to be consistent in hotels i frequent in own experience
and not funding TPG/OMAAT 's playboy jetsetting lifestyle...
My life is still pretty amazing though with stays at IHG hotels without the Amex Centurion / Platinum
but most important is nowadays:
earn & burn !
see what happened to Radisson, let that be a devaluation warning!
