Just happened to be checking availability tonight and noticed that many hotels had dropped in price. Earlier today, there weren't any Manhattan hotels for 40k or less, but now there are plenty, including NoMad and TS. Booked HY36 for Sept using a free night that is expiring later this year.

I've just changed my booking for Austin during the F1 in October as the number of points required is significantly lower than they were last time I checked. Even the same hotel I had a booking for is 50k less over the 4 nights.
The cash rate was over $1k a night yet it is now only 33k points!

I've noticed that the points rates have been standardised across the board - so rates in places that are usually much cheaper are now showing the same value as rates in the much pricier places (eg IC WAW is 40K, but I can get it for 15-17K at other times; CP WAW is 25K, but I can get it for 12-13K usually)
So although it's a good time to bag a stay in the most expensive properties for redemptions, you should definitely hold off points bookings in the more affordable places.
