Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:

1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .

2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.

3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.

4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.

5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .

Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)

IC Istanbul ( BRG claim from the 17.05.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

IC Frankfurt ( BRG claim from the 20.08.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

I made a refundable booking and they matched a non-refundable rate.
Not sure if they changed my booking to non-refundable.
Seems to be a lot harder to find cheaper rates, though.

Please know that the competing website only implies for residents of France only.
Due to this reason, we are unable to extend the Guarantee for this claim.
SERIOUSLY???!

Has anyone actually got them to send you their proof? I clearly found a lower rate but they are claiming they cannot see it and sent me this:

That’s the reason why we capture screenshots of the lower rate available on both IHG and third party site at the time of our verification. This is part of our verification process to ascertain that we have supporting documents to attest the result of our validation.
I requested it three times and have been denied the first two times for them to send me their screenshots.

EDIT: Five requests and now they've just started pasting the same boilerplate response back to me. At least they are responding quickly?

Yes and they reply with their standard we do not accept screenshots. I'd just like to see them actually provide proof they aren't seeing the rate I am. It should be easy if they document it like they say they do but they refuse.

IHG denied a legitimate BRG claim from me because I booked a rate that was "hold until 6 PM/no credit card guarantee." They stated because I did not guarantee the rate with my credit card that it was disqualified from the BRG. The rate on the third party site (Hotels.com) also matched the IHG rate after they sent my denial but the discrepancy stayed for the 2-3 days that my claim was "processing."

I don't want to be too harsh on IHG. After all, the thousands of points they award just for mailing in some envelopes...

Submitted a claim on OTA X with a rate of 430, where IHG was 489. 1 hour later, OTA X's rate increased to 530 - denied. Submitted a different property on same OTA, rate was 902 where IHG was 960. 1 hour later, OTA rate was 1002, denied.

Now is it possible the rates just happen to go up whenever I submit? Maybe, but...

Marriott used it too. Someone at the Marriott forum got a denial claiming that it's only for Portuguese.

Is someone having trouble with an answer to his claims ?
I never get a reply to my claim.
I contacted the BPG team and they inform by email that they have no claim from my email...
It seems very strange to me. I believe more in a way not to validate it.
Also I have something with one hotel. They always cancel my reservation. This was last week. The hotel cancelled the reservation without informing me. And BPG inform me that I cancel so I can not have the claim verified...
This week I tried the same hotel during the night so no cancellation from them but no answer to the claim. And the morning booking cancelled^^

It starts to be very annoying.

I am going to be writing a detailed post regarding my experience soon and sharing it with the FT community, as well as mailing copies to the UK and U.S. headquarters. I had been hoarding IHG points for vacations, etc, but I am at a point where I am going to use them up as fast as I can, cancel the IHG credit card and finally put my money where my mouth is and leave this wretched program. As far as I am concerned, any company that acts like this towards its customers doesn't deserve another cent from me. The BRG is an absolute joke and is nothing more than window dressing - and the secretive nature of the team (only available via e-mail and then it's a different person responding each time) only adds to the impression that I get of this being a complete crock of crap.

At least I was able to cancel my "non-refundable" rate thanks to a very nice hotel manager.

At the moment if you send an email you get a reply within max 2 hours...

But for a claim after two days no reply and by email they inform me they have no claim from me. So it's maybe the same for you

And a third time... what a coincidence
