Noticed this in a search and the rates are almost the same between this and the HI Tobu ( my old standby ). I usually go to the Family Mart across the street for food as necessary. I'm considering the ANA just for a change but am concerned about the cost of food and or proximity to a Family Mart equivilant or maybe a local bar and grill ? Guess I can take the bus into Narita ?

All thought and opinions on the area welcomed !

When was the last time that you visited the HI Tobu? About a year ago the convenience store was gone and they had a shuttle bus (once or twice each evening) to a not-so-nearby other convenience store.

We've stayed in CP Narita a couple of months ago, a decent hotel, but there wasn't anything outside the hotel. So you will have to eat in the hotel, I believe its on the top floor.

If you enjoy watching plans taking off, that place is wonderful, especially in the evening. But the price down there is a long distance from cheap, so be prepared if you choose to stay there.

The shuttle bus still exists at the HI Tobu. Made the experience last month at the HI.

Thanks everyone. Given the food costs I think I'll opt for the HI. I was there about 18 months ago and thats bad news on the family mart. Perhaps I'll just settle for the bus to the convenience store then. Maybe the terminal if need be.

From a stay this week - yes the Family Mart is closed, there are three other convenience stores nearby according the map supplied by the hotel. They offer a 10PM bus to one which was a 12 minute walk. Very manageable and I could be wrong but the Mini Mart is less expensive than the old standby as they have two others right nearby for competition.

The HI Tobu has refurbished the rooms a bit with new hallway carpeting and wall treatments and carpeting in the rooms. The ice machine room is still hotter than he**.

If it's a chain store I would doubt this (except for some select items or temporary campaigns). I've been in convenience stores all over Japan, and the prices were pretty much the same everywhere, even if there were 3-5 other convenience stores next door/across the street...

The ANA Narita has been part of CP for quite a while now. They are
considerably more expensive than the HI, especially when you request
a one ( queen size ) bed. Althoug I have noticed the HI also recently
increased their prices. I stay there at least once a month, always get
a nice upgaded king size bed room. We have to stay there because we
have a long train ride home and late plane arrival make it impossible to
catch it in the p.m. Usually we take the shuttle bus to Jusco and get
food there, the HI fare is way too expensive. And yes, the ice machines
are hot!!!

I stayed in the ANA CP at the end of April on a reward night. My room was upgraded to a King with airport view (from Plat status). Room was very comfortable and well-appointed. If you get a low-priced room it will probably be "mountain" view (seeing the Chiba countryside with no mountains to speak of).

I love the bar at the CP (great martnis and view of airport ops) but I would suggest avoiding the restaurants. Although you can get PC points for eating there, the restaurants are quite expensive (take a look at the jaw-dropping room service menu) and the breakfast buffet is overpriced (double what most hotels in Japan charge, though many NRT hotels are guilty of this). There is an AM/PM convenience store in the lobby; they're overpriced too but you won't break your bank shopping there.

When I stayed there (with my GF), we would visit downtown Narita by taking the hotel bus to the airport and then take Keisei (or JR, depending on schedule) one stop to Narita, which is much faster than using the Narita circle bus. The CP does have a few very rare buses that go straight to JR Narita Station.

Narita has many restaurants and is a much better choice than eating at the hotel. You could also stop at a convenience store in town and save a few yen.

As for the HI, I didn't like it when I stayed there three years ago but time has passed and many FTers on this forum are much more familiar with it. The folks in the Japan Forum also know a lot about both hotels.

If you can get a good deal out of the CP I recommend it!

The HI NRT has a fairly decent ( free ) shuttle service to the Aeon Mall
about every hour, very convenient. Also stops at the JR Narita station,
with walking distance to Keisei station. Saves the train fare compared
with ANA CP. By the way all Japanese ANA properties are now managed
by IHG and rebranded CP or IC. I am not sure if ANA had International
properties as does JL with their Nikko chain.

Not true. Some ANA hotels have been rebranded IC or CP, but many are still ANA hotels with special point earning schemes, exempt from most promotions and do not fall under the lowest rate guarantee (even though the latter is only mentioned in Japanese on the Japanese website which the Japanese call center workers will happily tell you ("Didn't you read the Japanese website? How did you make your reservation?").

I avoid the original ANA hotels at all cost until they are fully rebranded.

Can't find the original annoucement, but I believe it only covers some of the ANA property, not all.

For example, the ANA Xi'an in China, and the hotels in this list http://www.ana.ro/eKontentAnaholding...els/index.html are not IHG related until now.

Does that mean all none-Japan based property are not included? Not sure about this, I only know that all hotels on this website are IHG jointly running http://www.anaihghotels.co.jp/eng/index.html.

Your replies made me curious and I looked it up again. Seems, that
at least one part of my post was correct. The Japanese ANA poperties
are managed by IHG, as is the Xian, China ANA. Only some have been rebranded, some have not. And if they are not rebranded, the earning
structure is different. Sorry for the confusion.

Great link. Who would have guessed that ANA has all these properties, even a Hilton in Romania...........Never thought of it as a favorite destination for Japanese travelers. They ( ANA ) do not fly to Romania, at least not since I last checked.

The most strange one is the Xi'an property. I believe it was on their original annoucement, and when I try to book it few months ago, it disappeared totally. It is not even in the Hotel Directory on PC website.

I have asked this question on this forum, but it seems nobody knows why it disappeared.
