Per the PC T&C

Points for Elite Status – For purposes of determining Elite status, IHG® Rewards Club points are classified as either Qualifying Points or Non-Qualifying Points. Points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, spend on IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner activity, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages, and Qualified Spend through IHG® Business Rewards are considered Qualifying Points and are counted towards Elite status. A Qualifying Rate includes the following: non-discounted rate, standard corporate rate, worldwide sales negotiated rate, national/regional/local government rate and specified leisure rates as confirmed by the IHG reservation system. All other point earning transactions, including points earned from IHG® promotions, Elite status bonuses, activation bonuses or select promotions offered through IHG® Rewards Club credit cards, select partner promotions, point vouchers, point purchases, point transfers, and point deposits, will be considered Non-Qualifying Points and will not be counted towards Elite status.
For any IHG property, including the ones listed below, it's a good idea to check the IHG app for additional bonus point packages. For whatever reason, the IHG website does not always include all points packages that can be found in the app.

HI Alexandria, VA

Thank you guys for a very useful thread. I believe the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites : Alexandria-Historic District has a 10K point rate. In search results, it shows a 5K package, but when you open all available rates for a specific room, there is a 10K rate also.

I am unable to find this one. Do you have any sample dates?

Tonight works, actually. (01/20-01/21). Next Monday works too. I wish I knew how to insert a screenshot.

Found it. Thanks. All my searches included at least a Fri/Sat (which look to be excluded from the 10k rate).

Elite qualifying?

Are the points earned on bonus rates above 5K supposed to be elite-qualifying?

I've now stayed at the Hotel Indigo in Brooklyn twice.

The first time (in 2013) nothing posted automatically, so I contacted IHG customer service and they posted 25K points, listed as 'Loyalty Goodwill' points on the online statement. These were elite-qualifying.

The most recent time (in 2014) points posted automatically, as 'Hotel Promotion Bonus Points', in three items (10K, 10K, and 5K amounts). These are not showing as elite-qualifying.

Did I just get lucky the first time around (not that it made any difference to elite status last year, but I could use it this year)? Or did I get unlucky the second time?

On another note, the Holiday Inn Midtown-31st St also shows 10K and 25K point packages at the moment (or at least, it did last week when I booked one, for a single night midweek in February).

I would call IHG have them work on it. From the terms (bolding mine):

Gold Elite & Platinum Elite Membership
1. Points for Elite Status – For purposes of determining Elite Status, IHG® Rewards Club points are classified as either Elite Qualifying Points or Non-Elite Qualifying Points. Base points earned from Qualifying Rates paid for hotel stays, points collected from partner transactions, IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status. A Qualifying Rate includes the following: non-discounted rate, standard corporate rate, worldwide sales negotiated rate, national/regional/local government rate and specified leisure rates as confirmed by the IHG HOLIDEX® Plus reservation system. All other point earning transactions, including promotional points, points vouchers, points purchase, points transfers, and points deposits, will be considered Non-Elite Qualifying Points and will not be counted towards elite status.

Thanks for notice on the HI - Midtown 31st (solid prices for the points package BTW ^), I will add it.

i called and emailed IHG rewards club because almost on every second stay the bonus points package is not counted towards elite status. my overall experience is, that the call center agents are inexperienced and dont know the IHG guidelines. recently i got the following answer by email:

"We would like to inform you that the bonus points included on the Bonus Point Package rate is not counted as Elite Qualifying Points. We understand that the information on the web site is a bit confusing when it indicated that Bonus Point Package is included on the list of Elite Qualifying Points. It is true that the Bonus Point Package is counted, but not the bonus points associated with the rate. For example, if you booked a package rate of $400 with 3,000 bonus points, the Elite Qualifying Points that you will get is 4,000 points and not 7,000.

Basically all bonus points do not count towards Elite Qualifying Points. Only points earned based on the amount that you spend on your reservation, purchases with our partners, and booking meetings."

this answer is the biggest bulls**t i ve ever heared from IHG. what is your advise? how would you move on? does anyone got an "offical" statement regarding the bonus point package, as call center agents dont understand the webpage rules given by their company.

thanks!

Couldn't agree more with you, that is the biggest bulls**t I've ever heard from IHG !!!

AFAIK, Bonus Package points were included as Elite Qualifying Points. How bout if you call another call center agents or write a form on the customer service. Tweet to IHG Care also probably would help since IHG Care twitter account is more responsive than the Customer Care. Good luck ! ^

Thats strange, when I stayed @ IC Toronto Centre and opt for the 1000 bonus points, I calculated my "Elite" qualifying points the 1000 bonus points was included. I will try to check this again, next week for IC Yorkville ,I opt for the 5000 bonus points, so I will find out few days later when its posted.

I think $4 per 1,000 points is a good price.

If I did not need Elite Qualifying points, I would only pay extra (~less than .6 cents per point) if I had a plan to use them soon (in the next 2-3 months).

I really think that the associate may be mistaken with her response, but I do think that there may be more than one type of hotel bonus package. The 1K per night and 5k per stay rates in my experience always count towards elite status and post automatically. I think that these packages are from IHG directly. I think that some other bonus packages may be from the hotels themselves and not count toward elite status. Those points may be counted more similar to the gift bonus points that you get from the hotels and not the true package bonus points that you receive from ihg.

The quote, "IHG® Rewards Club Bonus Points Packages and Meeting Rewards are considered Elite Qualifying Points and counted towards membership elite status" very clearly states that bonus points from special IHG rewards club packages should count towards status, otherwise there's no need to have this sentence because of course base points count toward status even the few extra dollars just like any other packege rate like with a breakfast or tour included. If they didn't count the bonus points, they would be listed with the non qualifying points and not have to add this sentence to point out specifically that these bonus points are not like the others.

ETA: Thats not to say that I think all of these big bonus point packages won't count towards status, because I think that a lot of them will. Just saying why I think some of them may not.

Meanwhile, after complaining about the bulls**t IHG replied, I received a new message:

"Thank you for your response. We appreciate your feedback and apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced from our Service Center.

As clearly stated on the IHG Rewards Club Terms and Conditions, points from Bonus Points Package Rates are classified as Elite Qualifying Points. As such, the 3,000 bonus points from the rate package paid during your stay should have counted towards your Elite Qualifying Points. However, due to some technical difficulty the 3,000 bonus points was not automatically counted."

Technical difficulty? I remeber the call center agent refusing me the points, I remember the email message before...unbelievable. At the end, I m really disappointed about IHG customer service as well as about the unprofessional call center agents. It cant be the case that customers have to fight for their points. I will keep the latest email in my records and will attach it in the near future, when such a technical difficulty happens again...and again...and again...
