new Reward rates effective January 18 (Discussion)
Just stumbled accross this new style rewards page
https://secure.priorityclub.com/hote...freehotelnight
Category 1 to 9. Now So I presume some Holiday inn's / crowne plaza's could be moving up as there does not appear to be any mention of Hotel brands

Indeed, think this could easily mean that some CP-s can spur up to 50k level as well and some 40k IC-s can become mid-level 45k. Devaluation again, combined with increase on status requirements... and no requirements to upgrade on award stays.
I guess we should make a list of the redemption rates of most interesting current properties, as Jan 18 to Mar 18 we would need to know if the rate has changed and if so, do a phone redemption.

Another thumbs down... things seem to get weaker every year.
Found a good reference of the IC's and their current point requirements (Excel spreadsheet), so could be handy for comparison with the new rates:

Can go both ways; thoroughly "overpriced" ICs and other hotels on points may just move down, whilst the greatest bargains of the program (particularly HI(X) in prime locations) may disappear.

There are probably few IC's that can go lower than the current 30K level. I would expect, however, that the Candlewood's etc. of the Times Square will go up and a lot.

Couple of ICs in Asia start at around 70 USD. When you value points at the purchase cost of 70 USD/10k, an award night is a pretty bad deal right now. I can see them going lower.

I suspect they will soon be announcing some status enhancements. They sorely lack perks compared to their peers, and they know it, so I doubt they'll make these changes without announcing something positive as well.

I wonder when they will do fluctuate award rate.
For example when the occupancy is forecasted to be below 70% the HI is at 15K. When the occupancy is forecasted to be over 70% the rate becomes 25K. When occupancy is forecasted to be 95% and over it becomes 50K...
Basically they added 35K and 45K level. I can see cities like New York, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Paris will see biggest rise in redemption value. Other places would be hardly gone unnoticed.

From what they have announced in greater China for 2013 and onwards. You will see nothing happening rather than possibly free internet.

This is rather shocking yes? 2 years in a row of massive devaluation ?
I mean they just made huge changes last Jan with many CP's going to 35K, etc.
Another big change just 1 year later, now a CP, hell even a HI could be 50K a night!
And i'm sure it will happen, as someone else said, big cities like Tokyo, Hong Kong, London, etc. Just wow. What a big "FU" from PC to its members.

A lot of the value that used to be found in this program is going to quickly evaporate. A major redemption restructuring of this sort is not meant to benefit customers and the value customers get out of points earned from stays to be used for stays.
This kind of change isn't a surprise as usually tightening up programs in one or more ways means there is a focus on squeezing out even more costs -- in a bigger way -- out of the programs.
Did ICHG have an outside advisor involved in this program devaluation?

Looking at a few random dates in a few random cities, I can't see any change in redemption levels. However, no property is showing its category level.
I have to say, it's a fairly logical proposition, and if it is truly market driven, one might find new values in the programme -- e.g. as stated, many ICs in Asia should not be going for 30k/night: if they dropped to 15-20k, that would be a win. But if they keep ICs at 30-50k (just because), and raise the HIs in expensive cities...then it's a lose-lose.

These are not going to be dynamic awards. They will just reclassify hotels for these 9 award categories and move them mostly up yearly (and sometimes down).
These changes won't be in effect before 18th of this month.
