This is definitely a mystery in my eyes...

I'm wondering if some of the hotels that went from 40K to 30K were miscoded -- i.e., they were supposed to go up to 50K but an IT glitch has them showing at 30K.

Certainly possible. IHG is not exactly known for its fabulous IT. However, it seems like they decided to take a holistic approach and reexamine each property's point level, so the 30K might be right. Time will tell.

This is of course a change that could have been made at any time and did not need this new point chart.

All indications seem to be that IHG looked at all properties to determine the best award point level.

Holiday Inn Accra went up to 25K from 15K. Sydney IC up to 50K.

Also Holiday Inn Atrium Singapore has increased to 25k from 15k

Aehm you don't stay often in SIN right? ;) The HI Atrium has been 25K since last year. It was raised during last years annual reshuffle. I was hoping it would go down to 20K points, but no such luck. For 25K points stay at the HI Orchard City Center as rooms are newly refurbished and much nicer.

For BKK I can see the following:

- IC BKK down from 40K to 30K
- HI BKK Ploenchit down from 25K to 20K
- HI Silom up from 15K to 20K (crazy move if you ask me as for less than 2K THB no one in their right mind would use points)
- HIE Siam wil be 15K for now

IC Warsaw - 40K, quite crazy if you know you can book it easily
for less than $100/night...

And the award point level seems to have nothing to do with cost of a room (i.e., Bora Bora at $700+ per night is only 30K) or beauty (i.e., Berchtesgaden down to 30K, Frankfurt up to 50K). Maybe the point categories have something to do with occupancy levels.

IC Warsaw rate $100 = 40K
IC Bora Bora rate $700+ = 30K

I would LOVE to know the criteria by which the award levels were determined. I remember a few years ago a financial magazine had a monkey "choose" certain investments by pointing at stock listings. The magazine tracked the monkey's "investments" for a year. The monkey outperformed many professional financial analysts.

Maybe PC hired the monkey to determine award level allocations?

HI Dublin Airport is showing 25,000 - I think it was 15,000, at least that's what I was showing on my vacation planning spreadsheet.

IC bali is down to 30K

That is a sting!

All other Istanbul hotels seem to be intact.

RM

I booked 6 nights at City in October at the old rate a few weeks ago. Old rates are still available by calling PC though.

Thanks. That's a welcome change (even if it is a fluke). I rebooked 2 nights in Aug from 40K to 30K points. Surprisingly I was actually correctly credited back 40K points for each of the nights. With ICHG IT I was fearing for the worst to get refund as per new rate.

No change as yet for the CP #WeLiveInHope

I'm glad the CP HKG stayed at 25K points (for now). The IC GS to 50K is either insanity or a mistake by raising redemption level for the wrong IC. I could understand IC HKG to go to 50K but the IC GS with it's oldish unrenovated rooms is an absolute no go. Much rather stay 2 nights at the CP.

Point costs--as with most hotel programs--are not about quality.

In Chicago from what I can tell these properties went up:

- IC Mag Mile to 50K
- Indigo Gold Coast to 35K
- CP Mag Mile - can't find any award nights right now but suspect it to go to 35K

Also some HI & HIX around the airports are now 20K points which in some cases may be an increase from 15K, but I'm not so familiar with those. IC O'Hare stayed at 30K points.
