Recent discussion (After January 01, 2016) could be found in this thread.

Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:

1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .

2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.

3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.

4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.

5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .

Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)

IC Istanbul ( BRG claim from the 17.05.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

IC Frankfurt ( BRG claim from the 20.08.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

I just noticed this on a footnote of the email for valid claim this morning:

"One free night will be given to the guest per stay and for connecting reservations made by the guest or his household members at the same IHG hotel or at different IHG hotels within 50 miles of each other in the same fourteen (14) day period. The reservation should remain unchanged once the claim qualified. Primary guest is required to present a valid government ID upon arrival."

googling this I found it linked to this weblink : https://www.ihg.com/hotels/us/en/cus...rms-conditions

This link https://www.ihg.com/hotels/gb/en/cus...rms-conditions still has the 7 day period stated.

Not sure why but there is a difference between the US and GB versions

They probably have not updated the international versions. Nevertheless all mails received lately state 14 days if there is any footnote added.

What a joke. I had to change dates, so cancelled a reservation for which I had a BRG. Submitted another claim for a different date... which they denied claiming that "Room selected at check-in" is not equivalent to "Standard room" on IHG.com

The most frustrating part of this process is the inconsistency between the handling agents.

It has been the case that non refundable third party rates have been accepted as being comparable to the best flexible rate when it is the lowest available rate on ihg.com.

I've had a knock back to the contrary on this one this afternoon. It doesn't help that they think there is a lower advance purchase rate available either, for which there is not.

I've rebooked and reclaim so will wait and see.

Now they are trying to claim that "room selected at check in"with no specified bed type (it's explicitly mentioned that it will be assigned on arrival) is NOT equivalent to the Standard room type I booked (which also states that bed type is assigned on arrival), but the lowest price room category they have on ihg "king leisure"... Talk about cheating...

I would've have though they would deny that claim in the first place, usually standard vs standard is easily found on OTA.

Can you explain what you mean? On booking.com room type is listed as selected at check in, same as standard room description on ihg?

Are they both Standard vs standard? if they aren't, I can imagine they would deny the claim.

As in name of the room type irrespective of the description.

Sometimes they deny classic vs standard (not always but they do).
