Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:
1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .
2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.
3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.
4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.
5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .
Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)
IC Istanbul ( BRG claim from the 17.05.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")
IC Frankfurt ( BRG claim from the 20.08.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

I'm pretty new to BRG, having never successfully found one. I'd like to know if they apply to falling rates. For example, last year I booked a stay at Hotel Indigo in Chicago way ahead of time, and the rate kept on dropping in the ensuing months. I think I booked for about $190, then cancelled and rebooked at $180, then again at $165 or so. Could I have gotten BRG for this? For example, if I had kept my $190 reservation and then showed IHG a hotels.com rate of $165 or $180 2 months later, would they have given me the first night free and matched the lower rate for the remaining nights? If so, this is huge because rates change depending on demand and timing.

"non-IHG website within 24 hours after booking on an IHG website"
Info is all at the top of each page as is the link to the T&C's

hmmm, I just got a reply saying that they can't see the rate, even though it's still clearly there. I hope the site I'm using didn't decide to block the Philippines...

So I messed up and didn't realize that Amoma.com billed in EUR so my claim got rejected. IHG took more than 24 hours to reply so I can't even resubmit a claim (which is outrageous, by the way -- there were like 5 websites with better rates so I should totally have been given the chance to try again). Of course, the rate was non-refundable given it's basically impossible to get a refundable rate match these days. What's IHG like on cancelling non-refundable rates if credit cards have not been charged? I know with some chains non-ref rates are still in practice refundable.
Any advice? Thanks in advance

Yep big issue with email only (no phones) as simply put, this is email method is being used to limit us to one OTA compare attempt per IHG booking... whereas on phone we could quickly try another OTA site.
As 241 promo rate has disappeared in 2014 and not returned, (in effect a 2nighter 241 was a first night free so I used that a lot in 2012/2013 instead of researching BRGs as much)...
So I will now have to start digging for BRG's in London and I am not looking forward to only getting 1x OTA shot at my future BRG by email attempts.

I always give them more than one site to compare in the comment field. They always check them if the first one isn't working.

Maybe we should nominate him for Shmuck of the Year Blogger. Pretty tight race with Darius but I think he noses ahead. I would very much like to start such a program and we can have different categories for each shmuckiest blog feature- red circles, pictures of vr and other gc, pictures of baby or fiance or wife in fc...

Does anyone know if replying to a denied claim actually works??? I tried replying to a denied claim, and of course, it's been 30h since I replied and still no response.
They denied the claim because they "couldn't see the rate". I suspect they didn't bother to click on the button to see all the available rates (website was in french), so I sent them a screenshot and instructions on how to access the rates.
Is the correct thing to do just to send another claim?
...man, this makes me really scared to do this with any non-refundable rates now since they take so long!!!
again, stupid dan...
