Recent discussion (After January 01, 2016) could be found in this thread.

Most important points to consider for a valid BRG:

1. The comparison website MUST bill in the same currency as the hotel .

2. The cancellation terms must be equal or better, than the terms by the hotels.

3. The Website needs to provide INSTANT confirmation.

4. The room names should match, but if you can demonstrate, that the room is comparable, it will also work with discrepancies in the name.

5. The price difference has to be more than either USD 1 or 1% (whichever is higher).
5.b In regards to hotels located in australia and New Zealand the price difference must be greater than 3% .

Hotels for which you will get reimbursed:
(Note: There have been significant problems with getting full reimbursements from IHG, especially for reimbursements in other currencies than USD)

IC Istanbul ( BRG claim from the 17.05.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

IC Frankfurt ( BRG claim from the 20.08.2013/ "Technical Difficulties")

Unfortunately, there is NO work-around for this, and we have to play by the rules set up by IHG. This is the part I hate the most, as compared to the old T&Cs they had before which allowed for real-time verification.

I clearly have met all the other criteria, and I did find a lower rate on another website just after booking the IHG hotel.
I think brg team prioritise to some extent dealing with emails for stays close to date first. As such if you use the flash sale to brg a few months out, you may be a lower and slower priority to process your find and thus lose out.

If a flash 1day sale you need submit as early as possible within OTA's flash period, as you will not be only brg'er aware of a well known OTA sale and an easier BRG score opportunity.

I don't think there would be much of a way around this other than taking legal action.

The bottom line is that IHG guarantee the lowest price. There would, in my opinion, be some sort of implied condition that the verification take place in a timely manner.

But it would take someone with the will to see it through.

Ended up getting rejected because the rate on the OTA refundable, but the cancellation polices were not identical (i.e., the OTA one could be canceled up to 6 pm the day before, while IHG could be cancelled up to 6 pm on the day).

You are meant to compare eitther of
o Standard ADR with OTA ADR rates
o Standard Flex with OTA Flex rates
This is all well and good in theory, but has anyone done this in practise as yet?

If this is so then it should be noted that the case file number is a reference from their web guru system and this system is the same that gives references for points claims and all other queries, so it's not a good reference.

Here's the situation:

Advance purchase rates

IHG: $100 + $20 2nd person fee
Competitor: $100 all in

Is this going to work or no?

Not where the second person fee is only charged at checkin at your hotel. The ihg rate will be the same $100 rate so not lower.

It really depends, and not just on 1 or 2 factors :
- which agent will handle your claim
- which website did you use
- does the rate describe something like ' total for all' etc...
